    Virus alert

Do not open any email with Christmas.exe attached
Will all users please be aware that there is currently an active virus in circulation in the council. The virus being spread via email (internal or via internet email eg hotmail/yahoo), through an attachment called Christmas.exe
If users click on this, it opens a green Christmas tree which then crashes your pc - the result being the need for a new image. This could take up to two days.
If you receive this email, which may have a blank subject title, or titled 'in relation to Christmas', please delete it immediately and then delete from your email trash file.
Do not click on the exe file.
Additionally, if you receive any email you think is suspicicious, please delete straight away.
If you access your private email from work and find this email in your private inbox do not open it as it will have the same effect on your work pc.
ICT services are investigating how this virus has passed our virus protection.

When I worked for my local council, it would be over two weeks for someone to get to our site, just to confirm the problems I had already described to them on the phone. As for how long it would take to get stuff fixed....

That just makes the story even better. Rather than sending the email, they could've just set mcaffe to not let anything called christmas.exe to execute.

Can you not just flash a new image yourself using IFA?

I can see why it would take 2 days to rebuild a PC. Especially if the users are stupid enough to click on an attachment called christmas.exe i'd log that as a low priority call which would have an SLA of 5 working days. If you have over 1000 PC's to support i'd imagine you'd have a fair few calls to do before you get to the re-image ones.

Does sound stupid though if they haven't just blocked the .exe on the EPO server lol

In an ideal world I've have them all flashed every seven days during downtime by the server. Chew up a bit of juice on a Sunday night ;-)
