Help Problems installing XP from USB, can't even get XP onto the USB pen!

I want to put XP on my Asus EEE, but I'm having some problems, following the guide here - http://www.eeeguides.com/2007/11/ins...usb-thumb.html

I can't get USB_prep8 to recognise my USB drive at all! I've tried a variant of this program called USB_Multiboot_10, it finds my drive but then tells me it's formatted incorrectly, whether I format it with FAT, FAT32, or NTFS!!!

    Any help much appreciated.

try another usb stick m8... i have been reading about doing this on my acer aspire one and some tuts say not all mem sticks do it due to the way they are configured.

maybee you have a dodgy one...

Yeah, just tried a borrowed 4gb one, no luck either, and also tried a Micro SD USB card reader with a 2gb card in, they all give the exact same format error!

Trying to borrow an external CD/DVD drive, but can't find anyone with one.

No network drive either, but I should have a 40gb USB HDD somewhere, can't do any harm to try that.

Borrowing a USB CD drive next week, think I'll look into dual booting Ubuntu and XP, fingers crossed I can get it to work!

Got it running XP now, I just used his TinyXP image to see if it would work, and it does, fantastic!

Only problem I have is that there's only US keyboard settings, but I'm sure I'll work something out for that.

    Many thanks for everyone's help!

    Cheers mate, that's sorted it!

Any idea how to run Windows update too, can't seem to get it to work, assume it's disabled somehow?

I got IE7 installed, but it came up with an error on the updates page, as does FF with the addon installed. Not the end of the world, it's only ever going to be used to surf the internet anyway, so if something goes wrong or I get a virus, etc, it's only a 20 minute job to reinstall and I've lost nothing!

Managed to get Windows Update working through FF, but everything I try to install tells me that it's failed, including an update I tried for Media Player outside of Windows Update, strange! Never mind, think I'll just leave it the way it is, I'm sure Eset will take care of everything!
