Default Source for cheap IDE hard drive

    Got myself a Popcornhour A-100.

Going to put most of my stuff on an external hard drive for ease but want to put a HDD inside it for apps etc.

Anyone got a good source of (very) cheap IDE hard drives? - doesn't need to be very big - 40gb would probably suffice.

I think you will struggle to find anything under 80GB in size.
Why don't you give Neo a call, you never know they may have some old stock, although there is nothing on their website.

    Other than that try Scan
    Digital-Forums IRC Last.FM duckduckgo

Is it a fullsize IDE you need or laptop size? I might have one knocking around you can have for free. Let me know what you need and I'll see what I've got.

Are you sure you only want a small one....3 or 4 hd movies and youll be buggered. Better off spending 50 quid on a 500 gigger i reckon.....but anything bigger (750gb) becomes stupid money.

If you do want to go smaller, I would have a look on ebay to see if you can find a second hand Maxtor Quickview drive, which are the ones designed for PVA boxes, so are near silent, run very cool, and are designed for 24/7 usage so last forever. I recently took mine out of my popcornhour and upgraded to a 500gb, and it was noticably louder.

As above - internal capacity not really needed. Thanks for the tip on the Maxtor's - no IDE ones on ebay at the moment but will keep my eyes peeled.

Sorry, I didnt see the bit about the external drive........you might think differently once you get the popcorn doing all your downloading for you though.....i often see an nzb has been posted when i get to work, and I just upload it remotely to my popcorn and let it do the work for me....and of course an 8.5gb film needs somewhat more than that capacity to process, certainly at least 17gb+

How about taking the drive out of your external enclosure and fitting that drive in the popcorn ?

Won't be using my popcornhour for downloading - the external hard drive gets shared with an HTPC so I can use it in both locations.

That would be perfect actually - how much do you want for it? Are we even allowed to "trade" outside of the BST?

Same here, I just pulled a 40GB I was going to offer for this. Was going to do it earlier in the week.
    You want it? FOC.
