That is pretty smart. I can't wait for my PC to die so I can warrant buying a new one

I think that Dell have had an apple catalogue delivered to the design team.

Looks tasty, i was tempted to get one of these the other day when they were 50% off but at 60% off they are a steal...!

Interesting maths, the price of the cheapest XPS 1 (apart from today) is £1076,
    http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/pr...=dhs&cs=ukdhs1
    a similarly spec iMac £782.00!
    http://store.apple.com/uk/browse/hom...ac?mco=MTE3MDM

Still Windows is SUCH an enjoyable experience and no doubt you get a warm, fuzzy glow etc. etc.

So price you could get an XPS for < (Price of cheapest iMac/2) - think that's what I previously said, not sure how that stands up as 'interesting'?

I do think that the mac UI is nice, but their pricing is a touch on the premium and their attitude towards others using their OS on non mac hardware stinks (see case going on about the hackintosh)

the XPS 1 minimum spec is £1076, the price for a similar spec iMac (happens to be the minimum) £782.00, pretty straightforward.
Apple have always taken the piss on price but these days are very competitive at the more affordable end of the market, I have no idea why you would call them "wank" unless you are speaking from inexperience, there are plenty of people on here who have joined the "dark side" in the last couple of years and not looked back.
Still, one thing I will say about Dell and their XPS 1, they know who to mimic, and that is the BEST kind of flattery.

As for the hardware restriction, I expect that will change.

As for the iMac, i'd love one was meant to have one before but couldn't afford it. This will last me a good year and then i'll 'convert' i thnk

actually have quite a bit of experience wiht macs as there are currently 6 in the house and they do have certain flaws - samba doesn't work properly on leopard, mac server is plain shite - goes down for no reason, loses settings etc

I don't know why you keep going on about the 1k price figure for the XPS, I agree at that price it's too expensive but for less than half the price of the iMac it's a bit of a bargain.

My point was that it's only half price for one day.
I have no problems with any aspect of my mac (you've maybe been unlucky) although they did feck a few things with Leopard and my only real gripe is the wireless data rate which I suspect is the result of a 5 ghz wireless card being forced to run at 2.4 ghz to comply with UK spec.

I hate computers generally these days and yearn for the days of my old Psion 3a, Linux is still just about the best current OS and I just feel the Mac stays close to that. Horses for courses.

Ok true - but you have to wonder about their prices being artifically high so that they can run 50% offs etc, bit like the supermarkets. And I do agree for 1k, the choice between the iMac or that XPS isn't really a choice.

Dell, like Apple have always been overpriced and look what they charge for the Alienware stuff??
I understand peoples reluctance to make the shift, I have music software that only runs on WIndows. However my next desktop will be a Mac since I reckon the performance available with Intel Macs will allow me to run Windows within Parallels and have room to spare.
