    Nintendo DS Acekard2 Help

    Hi all,

I have just received my Acekard2 from DE and am looking a bit of help with how I get it working.

I have downloaded a few roms and have a microsd card.

From reading the stickies, I think I need to put a firmware on it first. Is that right ?

I went to the linFox page and downloaded the AKAIO_v1.3PublicBeta2.zip.

Am I right in thinking that I just extract that to the memory card and then put it into the ds lite ?

If I am wrong, I would be grateful for a step by step guide.

    Thanks

How much did you pay for it? Can you let us know what you think of it and how easy it is to use. Would be good to hear from a novice as i'm buying a DS for the Mrs and it whatever card I get needs to be simple to use.

all cards are pretty straight forward, the Acekard has a simple menu but has a few sub menus which are quite technical. This shouldnt be a problem really but an R4 is slightly more simplistic so she may be better off with one of those.

Turned out to be dead simple.

Copied the firmware onto the memory card, along with the nds roms, stuck it in the Acekard2 and then into the console.

Selected the Acekard2 from the menu and up came the list of games.

    Great job.

    Thanks for all the help

Never used an acecard, do they see sub directories?

I tend to make all the system files 'Read Only' and 'Hidden' and I always put the .Rom files in a seperate 'GAMES' folder so the end user has less chance of deleting the System files.

Think I'm gonna jump onto this thread. Completely new to this, planning on getting the kids one each for Xmas.

Just a couple of questions, as what I've read it seems to be pretty easy.

    1. What is the best card at the moment? an R4 or an AceKard?
    2. From the 2, what is the maximum size MicroSD card they support? I'm thinking 4Gb for the R4 and 8Gb for the AceKard.
    3. Do any of them support the larger 16Gb card available? (My littlun wants to watch film's on hers...?)

A genuine R4 only supports 2GB cards, the 'clone' R4 cards will support up to 32GB
The R4 menu is simplicity in itself and file import is just drag and drop.
A .NDS movie comes in at 150 -250Mb, so you can easily fit 40+ games and 2-3 movies on a 2Gb card.
Never seen an R4 fail, die or bork a DS in the 100's I have sold.

Never tried an AceKard so i'll let others comment.

    1. IMO the Cyclone DS is the best card around but alot dearer than the others. Acekard 2 is my personal fave and then the original R4. Although theres not much difference between any of them at the moment

    2. As Geezah said, the original genuine R4 takes up to 2GB. There are various R4 clones (R4 SDHC for eg) that support larger but these are clones. I've had 2 which have bricked 2 DS's. I've never had a problem with a genuine R4 or Acekard.

Ffs at least someone sees sense. Cyclo ds really is the tits and is deffo worth the extra dosh. Even if you are a bit reluctant to pay an extra bit for the cyclo ds think of the ammount of money you will be saving on not buying games at 30 quid a pop.

AceKard's prior to version 2.1 (hardware) did have a few reported problems due to a chip inside the AceKard sometimes blowing. This meant that the cards never launched the NDS ROMS from the MicroSD cards but stayed on a Loading screen.

This problem is meant to be corrected in the newer version of the hardware 2.1 and they seem to be working ok. I only know of one person who has ever had a failure of the AceKard hardware and it was prior to version 2.1 of the hardware. They use a spring switch to keep the MicroSD memory card inside the AceKard, which many people complained about on the original R4 cartridges as they found they broke quite easily (you know what kids are like).

I must try one of these Cyclones.

I'm an original R4 fan, but the 2gb limit is a killer.... I did have the TT for a while but the slow menus killed me!! However a newer software revision fixed the issue. Currently onto Acekard 2 now and it's nice and fast with no issues (yet).

I move these on a lot to friends, so next time i'll pay the extra for the Cyclone and give it a whirl

You wont regret it. Regular updates, just drag and drop one update file onto your microsd and it updates automatically. Much better

I have had lots of Acekard 2s and ever had a problem apart from people wiping the mem card to put new games on.

The M3 real is still the best one in my opinion but they are like rocking horse do do these days.

So, what's so much better about the "Cyclone's"? It must be more than the drag and drop updating to justify the extra cash. Only asking as I currently have a couple of Acekard2's for the kids and now the missus wants one too. May pay the extra if it's worthwhile.
