Default Internet Explorer security alert (yawn)

    Internet Explorer security alert

Internet Explorer is used by the vast majority of the world's computer users

Users of the world's most common web browser have been advised to switch to a rival until a serious security flaw has been fixed.

The flaw in Microsoft's Internet Explorer could allow criminals to take control of people's computers and steal their passwords, internet experts say.

Microsoft is investigating the problem and preparing an emergency software patch to resolve it, it says.
Internet Explorer is used by the vast majority of the world's computer users.

"Microsoft is continuing its investigation of public reports of attacks against a new vulnerability in Internet Explorer," said the firm in a security advisory alert about the flaw.
Microsoft says it has detected attacks against version seven of the browser - its most widely used edition.

But the company warned that other versions were also potentially vulnerable.
As many as 10,000 websites have been compromised since last week to take advantage of the security flow, said antivirus software maker Trend Micro.
The websites have been mostly serving up programs that steal computer game passwords, but the flaw could be
"adopted by more financially motivated criminals", a Trend Micro security researcher said on Monday.

IE in itself is a security problem...

    FF3 all the way.

Don't get me wrong. It's shite I agree. I tried that google chrome and ended up going back to Firefox. The one gripe I have is the time it takes to load on my laptop, fucking ages!!!

IE is a security risk because it's the most popular browser and because those that don't know better use it making them an easy target. It's not the fault of the browser itself IMHO.

It's also a shit browser though, since Microsoft don't seem to care about web standards and annoyingly since most websites pander to the most popular browser it screws up the web for the rest of the browsers.

Around 75-80% are using IE. Whats fucks me off more than anything is the amount of time the media channels give to this. It's only because at this time of year there is very little to report on.

I still use IE because it works. Have to say I was impressed by chrome, but I kept getting corrupt file errors during use so I left it. Used firefox and wasn't sufficiently impressed to bother installing it. (I know you can get add ons just for ff and all that but I've never had the need to use one)

No, but the traditional media channels bash the internet at every opportunity for obvious reasons.

IE all the way. Firefox and Chrome are just internet browsers. IE is way more than that and is realisticly the only option for corporate environments nowadays.

It's a shame really, I really liked Chrome, not so keen on Firefox. If they had the functionality I need I'd probably give them a second chance.
