No it is the model below the 450D but is still a damn good starter DSLR.

What does the 450 have or do that the 1000 doesn't, would hate to get one just to want the 450 a few weeks later
450 has auto sensor cleaning, 9 focus points as opposed to 7, spot metering, ISO in viewfinder, bigger LCD screen, 14 bit RAW as opposed to 12 and maybe more.

THE Canon 1000D is definately the best value for the money ........ unless you are really into photography , I dont think the extra features on the 450d warrent the extra cash.
You will get a quality piece of kit no matter which you choose in the canon eos range. . . . you will be able to use any lenses you buy now on any eos fitment camera , so pritty much future proof if you upgrade in a year or two's time. . . . I swear by the canon eos range , and have had them for many years .
