Default Canon 1000D with kit IS lens 289 + 30 quid cashback

Worth a punt at Tesco at the moment. Excellent price indeed.

    Won't last long I wouldn't think.

No it is the model below the 450D but is still a damn good starter DSLR.

    Cheers Bert,
What does the 450 have or do that the 1000 doesn't, would hate to get one just to want the 450 a few weeks later

450 has auto sensor cleaning, 9 focus points as opposed to 7, spot metering, ISO in viewfinder, bigger LCD screen, 14 bit RAW as opposed to 12 and maybe more.

Have a look here and use the comparison tool.

THE Canon 1000D is definately the best value for the money ........ unless you are really into photography , I dont think the extra features on the 450d warrent the extra cash.

You will get a quality piece of kit no matter which you choose in the canon eos range. . . . you will be able to use any lenses you buy now on any eos fitment camera , so pritty much future proof if you upgrade in a year or two's time. . . . I swear by the canon eos range , and have had them for many years .

Not quite. You won't be able to use EF-S lenses on a 5D for instance as it is EF only due to the extension of the lens past the mount being too long to fit the 5D and I think the 1D series too.
