Question Need some help - Mapping network drive

well, after my dell was taken from me i have begged and pleased with the wife and now i am a proud owner of a shiney macbook pro

my switch is going ok.. i have 1 question for any apple experts..

i have a hdd connected to a desktop machine shared out to my private network. Now on a wndows machine any mapped drives automatically connect them selves when on the network.. i cannot seem to o this on OSX.. i can connect but i have to physically request the connection andthe network drive then becomes active.. is there any way aroun this?

it only takes20 seconds or so to do so maybe i am being a bit picky

so i want a network drive to be mapped and stay that way so when i am in range its there.. if i leave home (windows normallyshouts 'cannot conect to network drives') its there but obviously not connectable..??

    any comments?

Set your login items for the user, so that finder will open the drive on login, will need to be mapped first

Means that a finder window will open every time, but the drive will auto mount

Dont in the system preferences, account, login items section

    Cheers
