oh come on Bignes, i don't think its going to be quite as bad as that. We've had recessions/depressions before and people have managed. Personally speaking, the crunch has had no effect on me and the wife at all so far... our mortgage costs have plunged, and stuff is cheaper than before.

Yeah but dont you think this is just the start of it?

I dunno maybe im falling for the red tops scaremongoring, or whether or not its ive just bought a house and am 1yr into a 35yr mortgage.

I really just think this is going to have a massive dominoe effect, end of the day those who havent lived beyond there means will be quids in, everything will be cheaper and they will be laughing, those who have borrowed there way to glory will be the ones to suffer.

I think it could bring back the classes, of upper, middle and lower and make them more defined

the shops are are cheap will do well ie poundland and wilkos etc etc because they will always have the customers for their products as they are so cheap.

[QUOTE]did the classes ever go away??QUOTE]

I would say they've certainly blurred during the last 10 years and not been so much to the extremes

I just think its very worrying, Woolworths and MFI have been around for a number of years, yes they were overpriced and hadnt chnaged much at all, but they were still high street retailers that you or i grew up with.

Zavvi or Virgin Megastore, like woolys and MFI will be no great loss, but where does it end?

Maybe it will be good, all the overpriced, badly run companies will all dissapear and be replaced by better run offering better bargains, whats the bet of a PLAY.com or Amazon shop opening up on the high street after a buyout?

On the other hand we could end up with no English companies left, all ran by foreign investors, with the ultimate goal of being integrated into the euro. 10 yrs from now we'll all be calling ourselves european and teaching our kids what it was like to be british.

Now if you excuse me, but me "end of the world is nigh" sign is getting rather wet
