A mother has run away with her teenage son after being reported to police for having sex with him.
The married woman, 38, fled her home with the boy she had given up for adoption years ago after being reunited with him recently.
Now 18, the boy and his mother are on the run after declaring they are in love.
They hope to set up home hundreds of miles away where they are not known.
Yesterday, the woman's distraught sister vowed never to speak to her again.
She said: "She is no longer my sister. It's so awful I can hardly believe it."
The pair have taken the mother's granddaughters with them, aged four and three.
The sister said: "They hope the girls will help them get accommodation quicker as a family."
The mother had had no contact with her son since she gave him up for adoption, along with his sister, in 1992.
She kept only her eldest daughter as she moved about the country before settling down with a long-distance lorry driver. Four months ago, the siblings were reunited via social networking site Bebo and they moved back home to be with their mother.
The mother's sister said: "From the start, my sister and her son got on brilliantly. When they first met he said, 'You are quite nice looking for being my mum'.
"When we had a party they sat on the stairs all night with their arms around each other and crying. I thought it was because of the adoption thing."
But two weeks ago the boy's sister found them having sex on a sofa and called police. Detectives are trying to trace the couple.
The woman's sister said: "There were signs. She always tried to be alone in the house with him and slimmed down from a size 16 to 10.
"It was always easy for her because her husband was away such a lot.
"The most important thing is to get the young children back. They should not be with them. This whole thing is ripping us apart."
Experts say genetic sexual attraction can occur between close relatives who are separated at an early age and meet as adults.
The disorder, which has been recognised only in the past decade, can occur between parents and children and siblings.
Fife police believe the couple have fled Scotland and are staying with relatives in Kettering, Northants.
