A good shmup is always welcome as a downloadable title, and Microsoft is cheerfully obliging. R-Type Dimensions will be arriving on Xbox Live Arcade on February 4. For 1200 Microsoft Points ($15), players will be able to play R-Type or R-Type 2 with original or enchanced graphics. New features include cooperative player via Xbox Live, and the ability to give yourself infinite lives and plug through the game at your own pace.
Pretty expensive, but it looks to give a reasonable amount of content for your gaming dollar. Will you be checking it out?

love rtype, but got the arcade rom, and the snes version on wii, not paying this for it, no way

I loved the original but something tells me it won't manage the wow factor it used to have in these modern days.

I used to gaze open-gobbed at the size of the bad guys on it, I'd never seen anything like it before when it first came out.

I'll deffo try the demo, but agreed 1200 is far too steep when other arcade remakes are 800 or less. What makes this one so special?

I was playing RType through mame the other night. It still holds up today, the music was awesome! not sure about the need for updated graphics. They should have just done the original for a a couple of hundred points.

Salamander is the business! One of my favourite arcade games ever (that and Out-Run). It is different to R-Type though since it has the overhead vertical scrolling levels but the bosses in R-Type are superior. Used to be able to finish Salamander on one credit back in the day.

I still fire it up on MAME every now and again on my original XBOX but gone are the days of clocking it on 1 credit. Can still make it all the way to Level 4 without getting killed though so some of the magic is still there! *haha*

Ah cool, I don't have salamander on MAME that i know of... maybe I should check it might be that i just never bothered getting down to S in the list.

Salamander was very good, but for me, it wasnt the best in the series...that would be Vulcan Venture.

I've got the PC Engine one on the wii virtual console, but i'm keen to play this remake.

ive got the version on wii to, if you liked that, you will love this, the 2d to 3d mode is great

this is very good, and brings back great memories i must admit, but can't stomach paying 1200pts for a 22yr old game.

The updated graphics look lovely, the retro looks soooooo blocky on a 42" tv, but the updated version is the bees knees.

Well, I bought it....and i'm erm...not as good as I used to be :-(
The game/graphics are lovely.

I've been playing the demo for now till i get more points, I'm just as good at level 1 as ever. The real test will be if i still cant get past level 4
