    Rant woolworths, zavvi

ok i know and so do you that woollies have folded and now zavvi..

but its gettin a bit much for the news to keep ramming the fookin fact home again and again..

yes theres a credit crunch but...

2 years ago online trading was at 51% and i dont know what it is now but i bet it is more, dont just put the feckin state of the stores sales down to recession its more than that.

dixons have moved to online only and with not as many staff ,no fancy stores or displays to purchase the online trend is the way most stores will head to survive..

so fuck off with the doom and gloom its deeper than the credit crunch.

Why does "fat chance" and "slim chance" mean
    the same thing?

the highstreet is dead, especially for dvd/cds and games. My GF keeps going on about how losing woolworths is some big thing, bollocks i say. Can we move this to the whine cellar so i can swear more?

The high street may be dead, but courier companies need to evolve if internet ordering is to be their replacement. Most only deliver whilst I'm at work, which means the dreaded card and having to wait until the weekend until I've got the time to pick my shit up. The first internet company that offers deliveries in the evening, with 1hr time slots will absolutely clean up. After all Occado can manage it, so why not Citylink et al?

i though about that a years or so ago
but not setting a courier up, more like a warehouse where the courier brings it to and u ring the client and arrange an hour time slot.. minimal staff and outlay

Thanks for that..I'm off to get rich, see you the Bahamas unless you beat me to it

Good idea thought and great principle. shame the delivery companies won't do it though. Is it due to supply ad demand at the minute? Maybe it will come off in the next year.

To be fair, the whole retail sector needs a clearout. Its not sustainable they way it has gone on so far. Most of the compnaies have been started up with the aim to sell the company in 5 years and cash in. When they have been sold, huge loans have been taken out to fund the purchase, smart folk like Branson have pocketed the cash and move on to the next idea ( have a google at how many companies Branson has started)

All these companies have focused on is increasing profit to try and take the company public (not a bad thing you may say) but for the customer this sucks.

Many companies will come out of this stronger and better focuses to serve the customer, as obscure as it sounds, now is a good time to start because you sure as hell will keep things tight , which if things work out to your business plan will mean no excess fat taken forward when the company does well.

For the time being low margins and great customer service will dictate who survives and who goes down.
Also if they have a large debt to fund the business they are fubared, common sense tells us this.

The only thing i bought from the high street this year was christmas cards, i got everything else online.

And if i can find a site that does those, i'll probably buy them online next year, and fook the high street

Know what you mean. All I got on the high st this year was perfume/aftershave for my dad/stepmum as I couldn't think of anything else.

Its true the high street is not that effective as it was 5 plus years ago. With the boom of the internet and online shopping its far easier for families these days to just to go online and order and get it nextday.

Woolies dies years ago and they was one of the best high street stores around but that was before the like of Currys, Dixons (now gone net only) and the like of Argos etc etc.

Woolies never went with the times and thats what killed them off and in tow other companies died along the way.

Prime example is Dixons who had high street store and closed the lot to soley trade on the net, less overheads and staff.

Well lets all hope that 2009 it will all pick up and start to bring back confidence in us all.

    Regards

its a shame really cos I'm going to miss woolies, I'm going to miss the fact that its always 120 degrees in there shops I'm going to miss going down the aisles which are just the right size to fit down if your a stick insect with anorexia, I'm going to miss the constant massive queues because they are so busy...err slow, but the thing I'm going to miss the most is the fat women they must employ to stand in the doorways blocking the entrance, then they look at you like you've just asked them to try a diet coke and a salad bag from maccys instead of there normal 6 big macs and a cup of lard, when all you want to do is walk past them and enter the greatest shop in the world.

so to woolworths im going to miss you my friend,

    Cam.

(17:18:34) (+Cam) i need to mount my xbox hdd in linux
(17:19:02) (+SpikeWork) youth of today, they'll mount anything
