PS3 Video Guide

Acceptable Formats:

• Memory Stick Video Format
• MPEG-4 SP (AAC LC)
• H.264/MPEG-4 AVC Main Profile (AAC LC)
• MPEG-1 (MPEG Audio Layer 2)
• MPEG-2 PS (MPEG2 Audio Layer 2, AAC LC, AC3(Dolby Digital), LPCM)
• MPEG-2 TS (MPEG2 Audio Layer 2)

Hints:

• Some files cannot be played due to the data type.
• Some video files distributed over the Internet have playback restrictions. For details, contact the content provider.
• When using a USB adaptor to play video files, you may need to use a USB adaptor (not included) that supports copyright-protection features (to play copyright-protected files).

2. How To Get The Best Possible Quality For Your Movies

In this section we will discuss how to properly convert your videos for playback in high quality (DvD quality). The first thing you need to do is open up PS3VIDEO9 and go to the convert tab. Underneath you should see a tab that says encoding profiles, go ahead and click on this one. You should now see a list of settings. Look for the dropdown box selection for encoding profiles and select the default AVC encoding profile. We are going to edit these settings to match my settings as pictured below.

Make sure your settings look EXACTLY like this and save the profile after making these changes (click on the save profile button at the bottom right of this page. Now click on the settings tab at the top and then the converter tab underneath. You should see a dropdown box called profile under the one-click settings box. Change this to the profile you just edited and save your changes by clicking on the save converter settings button on the bottom right hand of the page.Now that you have done this you may use the one-click convert button to convert all of your videos in high quality.

Here are some very important things to note about encoding your videos with PS3VIDEO9. First and foremost, make sure that you encode your video in EXACTLY the same framerate as your source video. If you do not match the framerate perfectly the audio in the video will become out of sync with the video. This will ruin your video and cause you to have to do the encoding all over again. Here is a listing of some standard framerates:

PAL

Frame Rate: 25 FPS

NTSC

Frame Rate: 23.976 FPS

Frame Rate: 29.97 FPS

Web Feeds

Frame Rate: 15 FPS

Another VERY important thing to note is the naming limitations set by the PS3. When naming a video file for playback on your PS3, be sure NOT to use any spaces, symbols, or make the name excessively long. Even if the video is in the proper format the PS3 may still say "Unsupported Media". Try to keep the names short and sweet. Once you have transferred the video to the PS3 you can use the rename function by hitting the triangle button on your controller to access the menu to adjust the name as you see fit.

If you find that DvD quality is not to your liking, and would prefer a HD conversion, simply adjust the resolution up to the video size you need and change the quantizer setting to a lower number such as 15.

3. Converting Your Videos

At the moment I have a quick video on how to convert it.

1. Download PS3VIDEO9
2. Connect your "USB flash drive"
3. Open up "ps3video9"
4. Click on "convert Video"(before you hit start right to the top of it says "Profiles" select your custom profile on the setting you want it convert it)
5. Then hit "Start"
6. Let the progress finish
7. Once it finishes go to "Library" on ps3video9.
8. Highlight your video
9. And click on "Copy to Device"

4. Putting The Videos On Your PS3

1. Plug in your PSP to your PS3,(or you can use a Memory Stick Duo,MiniSD card,CF Card, Removable Flash Drive just make sure that's it's in FAT32 Format.) If your using the PSP turn it on and on the PSP go to "Settings">"USB Connection".
2. Then go to "Video" on the PS3 Find where it says Memory Stick, PSP, USB etc and press "Triangle" > then "Display All"
3. Find your videos on MP ROOT when PS3VIDEO9 made a folder for you, press "X" the find the video name example "100MNV01" and press "Triangle" > "Copy"

forgive me for being thick as im really not into all this stuff

but will this make the xvids i already play from my flash drive on the ps3 any better quality???
