Default Transferring Domain Name and email service.

    All,

My current domain and email provider are quite frankly doing my nut in!!
I don't use the domain name for a website any longer, purely just for my email addresses. I use the web mail service from said provider, but recently it is down at least once a week!!! It is really frustrating!

Another issue I have is the fact I have given family members some email addresses which have the prefix of said provider and not my domain name...

I want to move the hosting and email service across to someone more stable? Can I do this easily?

Should be a doddle. Where are the domains controlled from?

I use 123 reg as tag holder and from there you can point the dns to where ever you have hosting.

So, what about the email addresses with the prefix of the current company I am with? Can I take them with me at all?

    For example - goldberg@CurrentProvider.com

Well I can't get on 123reg.com at the moment, their site appears to be down....

Not looking good for them either! I wonder if they do the hosting for the company I use!

In short, no. You'll need to use your own domain name.

To keep them, the best you can hope to do is have a forwarder set to the new addresses, but in effect that would mean staying with the old provider which is defeating the point.

Make the move. We all have to do it at some point. Pointless staying with a shit provider just for convenience. I realised it eventually.

www.123-reg.co.uk is working fine for me.

thats what I meant doh!!! and 123-reg does work, just not 123 .... Not having a good day today clearly!!

The folks who use the other accounts I set up will just have to get used to the new provider.

    Thanks

Do you get any 'free' emails with 123-reg? i.e goldberg@123-reg.com

No, but if you just want email for the others and not bothered about them being @goldberg.co.uk then you might as well just use hotmail or gmail.
