Default HElp - Snapped sata plastic in the dvd drive connection part

    Hi Guys

Is there any way to remove plastic that has snapped in left hand part of the drive connection or am I goosed?

I have a hitachi drive and when I was trying to remove the executer blaster from it somehow I managed to snap the plastic connection from the drive and now when I try and connect sata cable to the drive it wont connect down left hand side.

I have tried to stick the xectuter power back on and just connect it with the power sata adapter on back and it will let me power up only problem is that it says tray is open.

    Any advice greatfully recieved.

HI guy's thanks for reply's sorry I dont have photo I can send.

The middle bit is fine no issues there

The problem is to the left hand side of the middle bit (not the connection just the side housing of the sata) somehow the plastic snapped off when I was taking out.

I can re attach the pcb bit to it but I keep getting error message in the dash saying open tray. Drive was flashed and was removing the blaster and then snapped it off by mistake (PCB fix for hitachi launch drive) so to the left hand side there is the plastic that was once the side part of the grip holiding the sata conection in place.

Well at worst do you have your drive key or backup FW stored so you can spoof a drive in?

I'm not quite sure what part you have broken but if its the plastic that surrounds the SATA port it shouldn't be a problem, the way the cable plugs in is L shaped so the cable should be held in place without sliding so pins can't make the wrong contacts.

I think I still have the old key,

It is just the part that is on the outside not any of the pin part but for some reason I just cant seem to get any purchase on it to get it out. The right hand side of the sata goes down with no problem but the left hand side because it got snapped off is causing the issue.

Is it the hockey stick shaped bit of plastic around the actual sata connector? I broke one of these once on a 320g HDD. I managed to place the broken bit back where it should be and with the help of insulation tape the drive then went out in the customers PC

I have not really got any experiance of sata so cant reallly comment on that sorry I can tell you that it is on the DVD drive where you plug the end of the sata cable onto the drive to the left of the middle bit the sata cable.

If you look at a sata cable you will see at the end of one side there is no pins just a hole in a lshape. well what has happened is the other side of that has snaped off inside the connection on the dvd drive itself so it wont allow me to connect to it.

By the sounds of it mate it's not a technical fault that someone with experience can help with, looks like you just need to find a way to get the snapped bit out yourself. As we can't see it we can't suggest anything but I doubt anyone will have any better idea of how to get it out than you.

Maybe some precision tweezers? dab of super glue on a toothpick?

Surely if you take the drive out and stare at the back of it, you can get some tweezers in there or something to get it out?
I have some really sharp pointy tweezers that always come in handy for stuff like this.

    Don`t give up

I had a similar problem - I broke part of the sata connector on my work desktop. I just left the broken bit in there, put the broken end of cable on it so it made good contact, then glued it in place so that lead is permanently stuck with that drive. Works perfectly.

oR better still, seeing that you have the key I might have a spare hitachi main board(pulled from working 360's when RROD) which should solve you're problem just pay me for postage mate.Find out which version of Hitachi it is,if not spoofing the drive and injecting your key should do the trick.
