    What games are you using?
    are you brick-blocking them?
If you already have a working backup, direct copy it onto your rw disc, then try that copy and see if it works.

I struggled for ages to get a backup of Mariokart to work,(kept getting a black screen) until I ripped it but didn't brickblock it and then it did work.
Other games work perfectly, even after blocking em.

What is this 'brick-blocking'? I'm just grabbing PAL iso's from Newsgroups and burning them straight...is this wrong :/

If you're only using PAL iso's, then you should be fine
I'm no expert, but my understanding is the brick blocker prevents the wii asking for any update - useful if your using an NTSC backup on a PAL console (I think)
All I know is that I block all my backups and fingers crossed I've never had a problem, except with, as i said,Mariokart. Having had 2 copies black screen on me, I left the next one unaltered, the wii asked for an update, which i accepted (because it was a PAL iso)and bingo - it worked

There's loads of posts on blocking and region free-ing - do a search if you're in any doubt mate.

    Blackbelt,

the iso is mario karts mate and it is just black screenin.

I have downloaded the iso off a newsgroup. it did say it was a pal version though.

Should i try another iso first?
Is there a way of getin this on a disk?

    Thanks
    Matt

    Hmm.
Getting a little out of my league here I think but..
I download and unzip the game and it gives me an iso
before I burn it (using nero on 4x max)
    I use 2 progs.
One is called region frii - which will effectively patch an NTSC to a PAL (I don't always do this - I generally use it to check that what I've downloaded is a PAL version)
If it isn't a PAL version, then I will patch it using the above.
THEN I use Wii brick blocker and finally burn the iso to a disc.
9 times out of 10 that's it - job done,
HOWEVER. As I said, MarioKart did give me a problem - A brick blocked copy loaded, but gave me a black screen. By not applying the blocker the wii then asked me to update,, which I accepted because I knew I was using a PAL version of the game and it worked perfectly for me..
Can't really offer you anything else advice wise mate, too many variables: Could be a bad ISO, could be your media.

are you using a loader or a chip, if its a loader make sure you update the cios first before you install the loader. I forgot to do this with the new loader and i just got a black screen.

There's always a risk of bricking your wii, but my understanding, from a bit of research on here is that as long as you use a pal version on a pal console, you're pretty safe.

You don't have to do anything I do - It was the way I was taught and old habits die hard.

y is there always a risk of bricking your wii? i am never gonna plug it into an internet connection so it should never look for an update should it.

An when there is an update im gonna do it through the sd card instead of the internet.

So am i ok just downloading the games then putting them on the dvd straight away???

If you're not connecting to the net, then you should be fine.
