    Info Interests of things digital.

Hi, It is good to see that there is forum where one can discuss and even trade information about digital receivers, TV etc. I wonder if any-one has considered trying to source a digital to analogue decoder. The reason being that at present one does not have to pay for extra TV points in a house, so you can have as many TV's as you like and therefore watch different channels on different TV's with analogue signals, due to the fact the TV is the signal tuner. When we go digital, something we will have to do when the analogue signal is turned off, a separate decoder is required for each TV and more importantly that has to be paid extra for, whether it is Sky or Tiscali B/Band tv.
If some-one made a digital to analogue decoder then thedecoded digital signal could be split and sent to an anologue TV in the same way the signal is received at present - therefore one digital decoder [subscription paid] but multi-room viewing - free as it should be.
    Any ideas any-one ?

Welcome along to the forum. You should maybe read the rules as this is the intro section and not the place for such posts

    Welcome Peter

I've moved your thread to a more appropriate place, please do make an introduction post in the introduce yourself section though.

I like your theory, I'm no expert on this but the way I see it is that when you plug a digital decoder into an analogue TV set it only decodes the 1 channel you have chosen to watch, so to do what you're suggesting you'd need a decoder for every channel available which would outweigh the cost of getting a box for each TV.

Plus I'm not sure that analogue could cope with the number of channels available on digital without the channels interfering with each other.

But wouldn't a cheapo freeview box on each TV achieve a better result ? ( i.e. the ability to watch different channels on different TVs) or am I missing summat ?

    Totally correct.

When the analogue signal is eventually switched off everynew tv will either have a built in freeview or freesat (possibly both) decoder so that this is possible anyway.

Its just us old cunts who remember analogue tvs with built in tuners that hark after days gone past!

The main problem is the watch one channel record another issue which was solved in analogue days with the VCRs second tuner.

This can of course be solved with a freeview box and a tv with a built in freeview tuner and a VCR!
