Almost looks like the sun is part of the pier ,like a glowing light on the end of it , and the sky really sets it off ,nice shot ! .

Bert, I assume you composed on purpose to get the sun to appear as thought (as Eddie says) it was a light on the end of one of those masts? Works very well mate. Lovely shot... Really nice balance to the lighting throughout...

Yeah excellent positioning of that Sun

Nice shot Bert. Vapour trails add some good detail to the sky and pier is spot on.

Thanks very much all. Spent about an hour down on the beach at St Annes around 15:20 onwards. Got tons of shots with the pier in as well but when I checked them my fucking shadow is in the way on all of them.

neo - that was the idea yeah.

    Roach - used the Tokina 11-16mm at 11mm, f/6.3 at 1/1500 of a second.

The solution for that one is to use a tripod. Set the camera to timer mode, compose and focus the shot and take the shot. Move out of the way and 10 seconds later your shot is taken minus your shadow

I had the thing on my tripod but still got the shadow as they were mighty long by that point. I cloned it out on the pier picture above. ;-)

Great how you have the sun, but my first impression was too much foreground, despite the detail caught in it.

Thanks mate. I know what you mean but I was after some foreground for a sort of other worldly quality in the foreground if you know what I mean.

LOL, fair enough mate Although I can picture the scene (no pun intended). Photographer sets up the shot, presses the shutter button and runs as fast as he can out of the way waving arms screaming.. NO SHADOWS.. NO SHADOWS ..

Don't ask me why but I just do ..lol

Yeah that's a lovely shot too. Looks like he's either used cloudy white balance or burned in a bit of saturation on the sunset.

The positioning of the sun in your shot is much more creative I think
