Attention Nurses in County Durham on violent squirrels red alert

Nurses in County Durham on violent squirrels red alert

Nurses have been ordered to walk in pairs or carry umbrellas to protect them from... violent squirrels.
NHS staff who visit patients in rural areas are being viciously attacked from the trees by the aggressive rodents.
And the problem is so bad health and safety officers have told them to take the precautions, which also include making loud noises to scare off potential assailants.
One shocked district nurse was left with “reddening of the scalp” after being targeted. In her “squirrel attack report”, she wrote: “On walking up farm access I was jumped upon by a squirrel. Then another landed on my head.”
She rated the “severity of incident” as “moderate” on a scale of “insignificant to catastrophic”.
But alarmed bosses regarded it as so serious they sent a report to the Department of Health in London.
Safety chief Gregor Miller said the nurse was shaken after the attack near Langley Park, County Durham.

He added: “It’s not every day you are attacked by a squirrel. It was a garden grey as far as we’re aware. There were two of them, but they don’t seem to hunt in gangs. We’ve had no other reports of squirrels – probably in hooded jackets – attacking staff.”
Last year, inventor Mike Madden ended up with whiplash after a squirrel leapt on him as he tested a head-mounted bird feeding tray in Huddersfield.
    The hunt goes on
The Mirror set off on the trail of the killer flying squirrels armed with nothing more than trusty binoculars and a map.
I fearlessly searched the forests of the Ann-field Plain for airborne rodents, where a mere rustle of the trees was enough to send a shiver down the spine.
Yet despite confirmed sightings of a dog and a duck, there was still no sign of ninja squirrels.
However, be warned Co Durham, it may sound nuts, but the killer flying squirrels are out there...

Now if this had been printed on April 1st, I doubt anybody would have believed it.

I used to live there - you'd be more likely to find drugged/pissed up teenagers causing trouble and setting what's left of
the woods on fire, popping away with airguns etc. than any wildlife at all

    That's true.

Slightly off the subject, I used to work with a lad who's nickname was "Turkey". I asked him why they called him that and he said because we are all animals from Ann-field Plain. This is a true story.
