Question urgent help needed - Wii system files corrupt!

Hi.. I successfull installed homebrew channel on my mates Wii. It's an older firmware - probably 3.2 maybe lower.

Go it all working with Wads, Cios and the backup launcher 0.3 installed as a WAD.

We had some issues with DVD+R discs, but discovered that DVD-R works a treat.

He has been trying some games since and all good. He has been away working, and come back today.

When he boots the Wii up - he gets the warning screen where you press (A).

Then a black screen with a message saying 'Wii System Files Corrupt - refer to manual" or something like that.

He doesn't get to the wii menu.

I asked him what the last thing he did was, and if he has done any updates?

He says the last thing he tried was Mario Party 8, and no updates have been done.

Is he screwed - or has someone got any solid advice?

    I feel guilty as hell.

is this possible if he hasn;t got a modchip? it's just a straight softmod we put on.

If so, how do I do a firmware downgrade/upgrade if we can't get to the wii menu?

    Cheers

try booting it into maintenance mode then doing the firmware
to enter this mode When the Press A screen comes up, connect your remote by holding down + and -. Keep them held down when you press A. This should let you access your system menu.

apparently it's not worked.. this error happens no matter what combination of key presses on the warning screen, he uses. I am going round tomorrow.. but can anyone tell me if this is just a simple case of a BRICKED wii? if so is Nintendo the only hope ?

he has already sent this one back twice for no video output... and said they would replace if it goes back again.

    points to consider

    A) this is a non modded wii
    B) we have Twilight Princess (Original)
    C) we still have the hacks still on the wii (for TP)

the internet is so vague about this whole thing! and without being there I don't actually know what has caused this fuckup!.. but I feel responsible.. so help is appreciated.

I guess - It's either region blocked (although I dont know of any US games that he would have tired) or it's banner blocked. But I left him working ok.

I should have told him to brick block all his games. before burning.

anyway. Given the lack of response I guess I am right in that there is no hope here!

    Cheers anyway guys.

    Lets hope N fix it.

Can anyone tell me if doing the savemii frii hack will anable us to boot up an original zelda TP?

This is the hack where you put a gamecube controller into port 4, dissasemble the controller and hold left, right, up, down together when you boot the wii up.

apparently it put it into some sort of service mode.

Maybe this will enable us to boot up TP?

you need a higher firmware game than the firmware installed i know m8 because im in same position wii shagged sytem files and mines on 3.4 so i have to wait for new 3.5 update
if his is 3.2 you should be good just rent a game with 3.3 or 3.4 on it
    hope this helps

yes it does - does anyone know what games might have 3.2 or 3.4 ( I honestly think he has never updated the firmware for ages, do he might be on one before 3.2)

Just thought I would update this thread, in case anyone else gets this error.

He sent it to Nintendo, who called him to advise they have found the homebrew channel on there, and a backup launcher etc. They also said he would need to pay £65 as invalidated warranty.

He told them to send it back unfixed.

When he got it back, he tried it and the same error occurred after pressing A. So they did nothing to it.

I felt bad so took it off him.

Got a copy of Mario Kart (with the 3.1e) update on it. took apart my GC controller ready for the savemii button hack.

Turned on the wii. But my controller wasn't synced. Pressed both red buttons to sync the controller.. and it went straight into the menu?!?!

turned on and off several times, and all is ok.

It must have had a sync issue with his controller.. I cant think of anything else?

if you can get it to boot to preloader (ad its installed) you can do what i did and get preoader to boot to homebrew channel and then downgrade the firware hence my new 3.2 working wii not 3.4 bricked on woot
