Tech New Sky+ HD software coming soon

Sky is preparing the much awaited new version of the Sky TV guide that has been specifically designed for Sky+ HD customers.

The guide has been around for some time, in fact a preview was released way back in May last year, but since then there have been some slight changes and adjustments.

Now the software is ready to be rolled out to customers’ set top boxes.

The new guide will make navigation so much easier, with more details including a mini TV screen in the right hand corner offering a preview of the channels.

Sky has not been in much of a hurry to get this TV Guide out to their customers, but they do promise that it will amaze them.

Fookers. I'm tempted but will need to get a component cable for my PS3 then. Noticed that i've to pay installation even though all they'll do it just swap the boxes.

I only had sky + installed 6 months ago so it should be pretty up to date anyway. Wanted to get a freesat HD TV but the Mrs has decided she doesn't want a new TV so that's out the window now

    Well then its a refurb!

All later models had the component outputs removed due to copyright protection.

    New Sky+ HD software "imminent"

    Thursday, February 5 2009, 08:00 GMT
    By James Welsh
Sky is preparing to launch the much-anticipated new version of electronic programme guide software for its high definition boxes, it was confirmed today.
Digital Spy previewed the new EPG release last May, and it is understood that several features have been tweaked and added since that version. It is designed to make the plethora of linear HD content more navigable and lay the groundwork for the delivery of on demand content via broadband, which is a "core" element of Sky's future development plans.
"We are ramping up for its imminent launch," said Sky's director of strategic product development Gerry O'Sullivan. "We haven't changed our EPG for a long time. We are very sensitive in keeping all the navigation paradigms and the user interface of our current world-class EPG. How do you improve something and not break that? It's been a very interesting project.
"There was no rush for us. We decided to get it as good as we possibly can, and what we've got now is really going to blow the audience away."

The new TV Guide, showing the mini TV screen, six lines of programme data (more are shown if mini TV is switched off), and routes into the other parts of the programme guide.

yes my cousin works for sky and lucky bitch gets unlimited boxes and full sub for free!, i have played with the new skyHD menu, at first its a bit of a mystery because we are so used to the old menu as it has not changed much but once you get going its great, the bar that appears when your changing channels appears in HD so its not so big which is a nice touch.
