Default Painted my first helmet :)

got it finished today, just a practice on my dad's old helmet. I wanted to do a stylised "alien" version of my "Chaos 5" customs logo.

After undercoat I built up the detail slowly with a transparent white.

then over with a transparent blue, covering everything but keeping mainly to the darker areas.

went back over highlighted areas with a transparent white again.
did the number 5 with red, orange, yellow, gold.

I put some U-Pol1 clear on it. I'll wet sand that and add some more clear once it's a little warmer in the garage, but for now it's done

view from the side before clear

and yeah I have painted the side part which holds the visor in place to match

Looks great, nice to see how you've built the layers up.

So will you be doing a 'live' version on your own lid.

thanks mate. Yeah I'll be spraying mine and my girlfriend wants hers airbrushing too. But this was a kinda test run for doing a couple of lids people are paying for. One guy wants a Japanese tattoo theme and another wants green flames.
I wanted to try the combination of paint brands I'll be using. just to make sure it all went down smooth. and it did which was cool

I saw the title of this thread and instantly thought..the last thing you want to do is to paint your helmet..

    But nice job

I've done a bike (posted on here but the guy still hasn't put it back together!!), couple of RC cars, couple of PC cases n some xbox fronts that kinda thing. Couple more helmets lined up and a GSXR750 too which should be fun.
Started putting a site together n got some cards printed. will hand a few out when I go out biking and hopefully it'll gradually turn in to something more. so much to learn tho but I'm loving it

just a shame work gets in the way of my practice lol

    thanks dude.

decided I'm going to go over the 5 again.. I think it needs to be more angular and would look better if it was made to look like metal plating.

at least now with it having a coat of clear on if I do it and don't like it I can wipe it off without affecting the original image hehe

Stunning - that looks like a proper product to me.

Would love to have skills like that - can barely paint a panel in one colour without runs myself

was out on a ride with 22 others last weekend and thought I really should make an effort to at least spray my lid, to kinda advertise my work! so I did it this week

just finished clearcoating it tonight.. couple of imperfections.. definitely need more practice with these HVLP guns.. anyway I'll give it a couple of days to cure then down to the wetsanding then cutting paste.. should turn out cool
fingers crossed I'm able to wear it by the weekend!

without camera flash, but you get me doing devil horns
