Blackberry 8900 Curve + Orange Pay as U go?

Hiya chaps I was hoping to get an iPhone over the weekend but it didn't work out. I've been offered a Blackberry 8900 Curve as an alternative and just have a couple of quick questions before I go ahead and get it.

The phone will be on 02 so I would need to get it unlocked to use on Orange. - Can this be done and is it easily done?

I'm using an Orange Pay as you go SIM - Will I be able to use the Blackberry's email capabilities? Can it be set to check for new mail manually so it doesn't hammer my credits?

Further to the PM you sent me mate. You can always go into Manage Connections/Mobile Network Options and turn off Data Services. Any specific reason why you want to use a PAYG sim rather than your contract one?

As mentioned Orange do a Blackberry Pearl on PAYG, �5 a month for the BIS (Blackberry Internet Service) with a 50mb fair usage policy. You can probably contact Orange and ask to get the same tarrif on your existing Orange PAYG sim. Although don't quote me on that since I'm on O2 contract

Cheers bud, I'm currently on Orange using pay as you go. So no contract SIM. My dad has offered me his update of a Blackberry 8900 Curve and I just need to know if I can get this unlock to use on Orange before he goes ahead and gets the phone for me. So if anyone reading knows if/where/how much this can be done, please shout up!

if your dad is getting the phone via carphonewarehouse or one of there partner companies their is a high chance it will be a sim-free model.

He planed to get it from an 02 shop. I did also read that there are sim-free models of this phone available. Do you happen to know if there would be any difference to him if he were to get it from partner company rather than direct?

He might be able to haggle for a better deal from the O2 shop ie: more minutes or text, etc. Although this isn't necessarily guaranteed.

I got mine from mobiles.co.uk, 600 minutes, 500 sms and unlimited internet (500mb or something like that) at �35 per month (18 month contract) and it is a sim-free phone. No network branding on the phone itself and no network branded software, etc and of course it's unlocked to all networks.

I'm sure you can get the 8900 unlocked but I have no idea where and how much.
