Attention Looking for a Track day car

Actually after reading the redline thread i'm now hunting on ebay for a track car for some fun legally, the following criteria if you spot anything or know of any for sale.

Going to book track day in May at croft so best get hunting

    Budget approx £1000,
Me a few mates are all good mechanics with most of them doing it full time not like me a spanner collector !!

Also means can practice some shots with the camera as well

Cars i have owned and some of the others have that will help us bring back our youth are

    Astra Gte / Gsi
    Cavalier/ Calibra Sri / Gsi
    Nove Gsi / Gte
    Pug 205 gti
    Golf gti
    Corrado
None of the turbo Vauxhalls just fook up too easy.

I quite fancy a rear wheel drive as thats what i prefer but going have a feeling its going to be more expensive

    Bmw E30
    Nissan 200sx

any others at a reasonable price or anyone got an old car that might fit the bill that they want rid off

How about a 106 Ralley or XSI? Strip it completely and it'll be light as fuck and the handle ace. You'll be LOO your way round the track all day long then

I wouldn't own one as a daily driver but as a good handling car to strip they look fun RWD would be best though like you said, much more fun. You could probably get a E30 for 1k and strip it? Read something ages ago about some nutters who bought an E30 to drive to the ring, canned it all the way over there and back and sold it for what they paid for it Sounded like a mint road trip!

I was also gonna say e30 325. I remember I went as a passenger with a few blokes from an alfa forum to castlecoombe couple of years ago, one of our lot in a £400 325 seriously impressed a fair few people who thought it couldn't be standard

Dunno if it's still the same, but I remember a while back, if you looked hard enough, you could get an e30 with the e36 325 lump (homemade conversions with 192 brake instead of 172) in your price range - was a problem getting the abs to work so can't get legit mot and normally some kind of weird electrical issue - but not a problem for track car.

E30s are rising in price now, they've gone past the council house beemer stage so a £1k one will probably be a bit ropey. An e36 on the other hand should be pretty easy to get for £1k strip it right back and sell the rest on.

Bit tatty, but that interior will sell for £200-300 alone. http://www.pistonheads.com/SALES/897560.htm

Bit closer to your budget but much more tunable, should be able to see 230bhp with a few mods. http://www.pistonheads.com/SALES/888178.htm

For a decent 200sx you'll have to up your budget a bit or look hard and be lucky. But some sources show them to be unreliable and very costly to maintain properly, but some say they have barely spent a penny and have great fun having to face sideways to see where they are going.

If I think of any more cars, probably after this hangover has departed I'll come back to the thread.

Have just been invited to the Nurburgring in June. Some guys are taking their own cars and some of us are hiring Clio Sports out there (don't fancy crashing though - 5,000 euro excess and a 200 euro towing fee!!)

    Think I'll stick to 30!

But wasn't the 924 the one that should've been an audi - i.e. won't be in the same league performance wise as pretty much any other porsche (of simliar vintage).

Yeah it was. And that one looks to be a bit of a dog, good for a project car maybe.

How about a MkI Toyota MR2? They're RWD, mid engined and there is plenty of power from the 1.6 lump. You should be able to pick up a reasonable D to G reg for not very much cash... although tidy, rust-free examples command a much higher premium.
