Downloaded a DVD with extra subtitles....?

I've downloaded a french movie in two avi files and it has the extra subtitle files. .sub's.

how do I watch the movie with the subtitles on?

Never had to do this before so I'm a little lost.

Vlc media player just make sure subs are in same folder ......

think this should work with the mac version not 100% sure as i've not used a mac...
