News 3 enters the Sim-only battle between operators

The operator introduces a £9 per month deal

3 has introduced a £9 Sim-only tariff to raise the bar in the price war over minutes and texts.

The £9 per month, one-month rolling contract offers 100 minutes or texts, with extras such as 300 3 to 3 minutes, free voicemail, Windows Live Messenger and free Skype calls for compatible handsets.

3 is the last of the major networks to offer a Sim-only deal, and comes after sources close to Vodafone and O2 indicated that Sim-only sales made up between 30% and 35% of contracts currently being sold.

Sim-only deals are dominating shop windows and billboards, as operators try to balance declining margins from lower average spends with the benefit of not having to pay out for a new handset.

However, fears are still running on the impact of churn levels, with customers allowed to leave the network after one month’s notice.

Vodafone’s cheapest Sim-only plan offers 100 minutes and 500 texts for £10 per month. O2, T-Mobile, and Orange’s lowest prices are currently £15 per month.

You sure about this mate? I took out a contract for my boy last month with O2. £10 per month with 180 minutes (30 extra mins with o2 treats) and 300 texts.
