New guide for updating Tomtom units

If you have added a new map did you try copying the old 'mapsettings.cfg' file from the old map folder ? - if you did then try deleting it.

Cheers M8, no I didnt just used the map in your link,thought at first might be old firmware on unit I know the firmware updates via the one on the the new cracked card but updated anyway, still no joy, however it works fine on my 300 so maybe a problem with friends go, I also note the his go works fine with origional card and map/software etcetc..

Try another memory card if you can ??

Ok russ did that no go, however all the memory cards are ok in my go 300, it looks as though his unit does not like a cracked map/software will pesevere on..cheers Russ

Try getting the latest version of Navcore from Tomtom - use Tomtom Home & update (might have to do this a few times) - think it should be version 7.9**. Check it's all working with the map you've got now, once it's all ok then use the YDG tool to patch it & then add the v825.2159 map.

Ok Russ, done that but the ydg program I downloaded and installed comes up with failed to inisialize when trying to open,have re downloaded a couple of times but same thing, does this proggy work on XP?

Ok Russ had a google and found answer on ipmart, you have to have .NET installed before ydg proggy will run!!

Ok Russ, this is what I did, updated tomtom firmware to 7.90 (official)
then used YDG tool to patch ttsystem file on unit.
Replaced old map with uk 825.2159 (no alg/i,q etc)
Then patched this map with easy activator 0.57 (as per your instruction )

And Bingo tomtom 300 works all ok with new map, and is not locking up and messing about like before.

So to summerise looks like this 300 unit (friends ) prefers official firmware, whereas my 300 unit works fine with cracked Navcore 8.24.

Ok guys thought i would give this a bump seen as my original tomtom is now 5 years old !!!

its running app/navcore 6.520

maps version UK_and_IE_plus_major_roads_of_WE v675.1409

and has a whole 1gb card which i upgraded from the 256mb !!

So has anyone upgrade an orginal GO and if so whats the latest NAV and Maps i can run ???

K+ waiting or $2000 df dollars if you have a gambling addiction

hello you can use the latest navcore 820** and the latest maps ver 825.1257 and thereby get all facility's eg lane guidance and iq routing etc. just follow the guide by russ, and if your tomtom dosnt like the latest navcore and locks up etc, just upgrade firmware to latest 7.90 on tomtom home and use maps ver 825.2159 without iq and lane guidance and use the ydg patch again all explained in russ's great guide...

For information for Russ (and anyone else interested)......

Having now done a few Go's, I have found some units don't like the newer navcore, and although everything seems to work you may find that the postcodes search locks up!!
if this is the case you have to put tomtom latest firmware on usually 7.90,
and use the 825.2159 maps and dont forget to patch the firmware with the YDG patch software.....
