Default Employee Bonus Schemes - Timekeeping and Attendance

Just interested to know for those who are on a bonus scheme, do you have timekeeping and attendance built into this? If so, how does it work?

Is it a negative, whereby the bonus is reduced for poor timekeeping, poor attendance. Or is it a positive, whereby the bonus is increased for good timekeeping and attendance?

    Thanks.

at our work place, if we are their 100% through the month and not late we get an extra 'uplift in bonus'

although if you have a period of sick, you are only around 15 quid less off !
    sucks really

Nothing to do with attendance on our bonus, purely performance.

When I was on the shop floor they introduced an attendance bonus of £50 every 2 months with the conditions of no time off sick & no clocking in late more than 4 times over the period. Sickies stopped in an instant & we were shown a graph of absence a few months later & there was what they like to call a "step change" where the very day they introduced the attendance bonus there was a vertical line from the old level to the new level of absenteeism.

If I was an employer it's something that I would definately consider introducing.

Our bonus scheme is great. I turn in and do over my hours and get my pay and they consider it a bonus that I have a job...

I completed a questionnaire a few months ago that was sent from our HR. Basically they asked if bonuses were awarded for attendance would this be a good idea.

I rejected this not because I pull sickies but I think it is completely wrong! A system like this would encourage people who were genuinely sick to come in and spread what ever they had on to me. Although this would discourage people who went sick at a drop of a hat I still think there are too many flaws.
I understand and accept that some people hold opinions that are different to my own. Living in a free and democratic society, I fully embrace and respect their right to be wrong.

We introduced an "attendance" bonus about 5 years ago now. My staff are paid weekly and so if in that working week they are late or absent whatever the reason, they lose the bonus. It is discretional so if someone arranges a dentist’s appointment at 5 pm and leaves 30 minutes early we would still pay them the bonus.

It wasn't overly effective in the first year but as the years have gone by we put pay rises part onto their basic wage and part onto their attendance bonus. So now the attendance bonus is £55. Add that to losing a day’s money (again discretional) and a "vehicle cleaning bonus" (which is another weekly bonus they would forfeit for any absence) a day off can cost them between £150 and £200.

It has helped to sort out most attendance issues but you will still always get lazy wankers who are not motivated by money or putting food on the table for their kids, so will take a day off at the drop of a hat or book a dentist’s appointment for slap bang in the middle of the day. Fortunately our redundancy process in November weeded out our worst offenders. Since then out of 40 staff we have not had one single absence.

The place my sister works has one, its a quarterly thing I think that if they have 100% attendance then they get a pretty decent bonus but anything less than 100% and they loose it. It doesn't really bother her as she is rarely ill and never "throws a sickie" she doesn't even use all her holidays each year.

My house mate works shifts in a factory and he gets £20 a week bonus but they lose it if they are late and they have to ring in twice a week to see if they are needed for overtime. If they don't ring in then they lose it.

Its not a lot of cash but its enough to buy a couple of PS3 games a month so well worth having.

We got took over about 2 year back by a Swedish/Danish company and for the first time in the 20 odd years i have been here we have received a proper bonus, we get 10% of our annual salary if we hit budget plus another 2% if we pass budget by 6% happy days as we hit budget and passed it by more than 6% sickness is deducted but you would after have had a fair amount of time off to actually notice the deduction.

Yep, same here. My job is my bonus. I'm just happy that with the redundancies that are going on in our company I'm still here.

    *EDIT*
We do actually get a Christmas bonus, but this is unrelated to attendance or tardiness.

We get a bonus of £500 per annum for taking no sick days.
Not sure if I agree with it or not, but suffice to say I didn't get it last year.

Does that mean just 1 sick day knocks that on the head?

See if one of my guys is off and his attendance is normally excellent then I would use my discretion and pay him.

Not sure I agree with all this. My stance would be if you are off sick then your pay is docked. Caring, sharing Root.

Bonuses, in my eyes, should be given for exemplary performance, beating targets etc, not just doing what you are contracted to do.
