Question Sky TV Pack 2 + HD

We have Sky Pack 2 (no movies or sports) and will be upgrading to Sky+ HD on Sunday.

I've hoogled, but don't seem to be able to find what we have now nd what we will have in Hi-Def come Sunday.

Anyone know of a list of what is currnet, and what will be for this package?

It is the £17.50 a month package (then the HD will be a tenner afterwards on top).

Ignore the movie & sports channels!

Would like HD but not ready to pay another £10 a month for the privilege - anyone got any idea if they will drop this?

same here, im not with sky at the moment but ive been considering it for the hd stuff, just dont want to be spending a fortune for something that im not going to be using all that much

@ tom999 if like me its just the hd stuff that sucking you in to sky have a look at freesat no sub's and free hd admittedly not many channels (2 or 3 i think bbc hd, channel4 hd and itvhd saying that im not 100% on channel4 being on there)

They won't be dropping it now or the near future because of the recent £49 HD box offer

@casio - yeah might have a look at freesat, already got sky, mainly for sky+ really

@kracken - good point, but if i remember rightly they used to charge for sky+ and dont anymore.

Does anyone know if I get a hd box somewhere else if things like bbc will work? doubtful but it would be good

They charge if you dont subscribe!

Of course BBCHD will work if you get a box of ebay for example as will C4HD if you have a freesat card or expired sub card.

Without a sub you will have to pay £10/month for the + functions though!

they charge you to use it as a pvr when your not subscribed to them? talk about money grabbin

@tom999 if your after a hd box with pvr functionality have a look at maplin or some of the local sat dealers, i bet you'll get something without needing a subscription, for the + bit or for the hd content, the ones at maplin may not look as good as the sky+ ones but you can just plug a usb hdd in to use them as a dvr, and access hd channels

I'd only really be tempted by a one box solution. However if the bbc and ch4 hd would work with a skyhd box and I could use my existing sky card for the other subs i might be tempted to pick one up.

The BBC & ITV that are in Freesat, can I tune them in to the Sky HD box manually?

im not 100% on this (if im wrong please correct me) but your not able to tune itv hd in on a sky box due to either frequencys the sky box cant scan and/or the itv hd stream is broadcast as a "red button" option that then sends you to the right stream rather than being multiplexed with itv (sd) also im sure that itv have gone with a non standard/ non compliant encode (h.264) within the h.222 stream

its a while since i read about it and im not 100% on the frequencys thing but the encode being the h.264 in an h.222 stream rings a bell

BBCHD is on the Sky EPG anyway so thats not a problem and you can receive that without a card.

C4HD is also on the Sky EPG but you need a Freesat from Sly card to recive it on a Sky box (or any card prviously used for your sub if you cancel will work).

ITVHD is NOT on the Sky EPG and isnt tunable on a SKY HD box UNLESS you have the new SKYHD EPG which was downloaded to the oldest Thomson boxes last Thursday.

With this new EPG ITVHD is tunable as an "other channel".

Bugger, mine is a PACE TDS850NB..

Will it be rolled out soon to other boxes? Or should I ask Sky for a Thomson one saying this one is crap...?

You wont get a Thomson as I dont believe that make them anymore.

It should be on all SkyHD boxes by the summer.

    Nibb, do work for Sky?

Have you got some insider-info on the ITV HD timescale, or is it passing on something you've heard?
