    Im getting the impression if i aquire a sky+ box i can receive hd would this apply with my normal card basic package ta

    Not with a normal Sky+ box m8...you need a Sky HD box, then you'll only get BBCHD, Channel4HD and one or 2 other free ones not worth getting with a basic sub.
