Update XBOX 360 registered owner details

I was given an XBOX 360 with an E74 error, it was bought 2nd hand by a mate and he's no idea who it's was originally registered to.

I was planning on sending it to MS as the seal is intact, but they want me to provide a proof of purchase, photo of the serial no., blah blah blah.

Does anyone know if there is a way to get them to change the ownership details without all this?

Last time I had a box that I won in raffle and was second hand MS were good enough to accept an emailed picture showing the back of the case and the serial number, perhaps you could ask them if that would suffice?

i tried the jumble sale approach and they wouldnt have it -ended updoing my usual of swapping cases with my own xbox - its been back to MS about 4 times now with different innards each time!

i bought one of a mate of mine that had about 6-8 months left of the 3 year warranty and because i didn't give all the correct reg details the guy said he could transfer the reg details as i only new the name of the reg owner and part of his address. he then changed the reg details and then asked me for repair fee, i explained that it still had 6-8 months left off warranty and he said that because i changed the details it is now classed as second hand and there fore the warranty is not valid. which is a pile of shite

I decided to fabricate a receipt and send it to them along with a photo of the back of the console. I used to run a company so I still had the template, and made up a purchase date and price.

I phoned them up this morning, gave him the case reference number. He took my details and said because it was 2nd hand I'd have to pay £94 on the phone or £80 on the internet for a repair. I said I'd do it online, and the call ended.

I went online, registered the serial to my details, and clicked through for a free warranty repair.

Result!

On a similar note, rang up MS as my 20gb HDD had packed in. They sent me a 60gb!
