Have you tried greasing it with butter and easing it off?

Or sticking your band in a bucket of ice for 5 mins?

    Shooooooo-ryuken!

Cooking oil may also work like the butter flump mentioned. When you get it off, if you like it, get it to a decent Jeweller and get it resized to fit properly. Ask them if they can help get it off for you, they may know of another trick having seen it before.
What is it with steel wool? Is it steel? Or is it wool?

Bandsaw a bucket and frozen peas come to mind, closely followed by a trip to casualty.

    Hope this helps.

My son had a gold ring stuck on his finger once and i just cut it off with a pair of wire cutters
Gold is soft so it will cut easily

wrap your finger very tight with cotton round and round just above where the ring is, you'll usually get enough to get the ring over the first 'lip'

Quality idea - I know how you can "shrink" your finger by wrapping it tight so I can mentally picture this working right now. Never would have thought of that one!

Surely the ice bucket would contract the ring as well?

I know when I sat on one my ring contracted too

No but it looks like it was too much lard that was the problem.

That picture reminds me of the rubber rings they use on lambs tails and privates. As the lamb grows the circulation gets cut off and the tails and privates eventually just drop off.
