Don't get me wrong as a Liverpool supporter i would fully accept Vidic winning this from the group nominated but Giggs....utter disgrace.

If anyone can justify why he has won this i would be surprised.

    An utter farce.

Giggs has been fairly consist over his career. But if this award is meant to be for the best player THIS season, then im afraid to say Giggs has fallen well short of that. Vidic should have won it if you ask me.

Giggs winning it? Absolute joke. Makes a mockery of the award.

What's it called again, "Player of the year"? Now to my mind that means player who has stood out over the last year. Who in complete honesty could say that was Giggs?

Don't get me wrong, I'll fully acknowledge that over the last what, 15 years or so Giggs has been a consistently great player. You could argue it's a little surprising he's never won one before. But that doesn't mean he should get one now. It should be given to the player that has performed over this season, which if I'm honest would probably be Vidic. What message does this send out? Maybe Gerrard will get one in his last season (in about 4 or 5 years)? Tell you what, instead of having testimonials, why not just award them player of the year awards? Fucking joke, and winds me up. And yes, I would be saying the same if it was Gerrard.

I guess it boils down to the fact that footballers (i.e. those who voted on this, not the media or fans), are a sentimental bunch, either that or just plain stupid. There's no doubt in my mind that he deserves AN award, maybe when he retires, but Player of the Season? Doesn't seem right to me.

Seeing that votes are cast in Feb/March, I'm suprised Vidic didn't win by a mile.

Bookies stopped taking bets on Giggs on Friday as the result was already leaked / fixed.

Rooney should be in the 1st XV over Anelka, otherwise a good selection.

Anelka was top scorer in the league and playing well up until Feb, so his selection was correct IMO. Sure, he hasn't scored since Feb, but hey ho.

Possibly your right there if i'm totally honest i don't even think Giggs would get in the team of the year.Alonso has had a better season than Gerrard imho and lampard should get in before Giggs.

i would have no argumnt if they awarded him a life time achievment award or something like that but to play 12 games and win this award is ridiculous.

True the reason why i fully expected and accepted Torres not being nominated because he never played enough games so for the winner to only play 12 games is utter madness.

I also would have had no qualms about some kind of lifetime achievement award for Giggs which he would thoroughly deserve.Even Giggs himself must be amazed by this, almost as amazed as Phil Neville is every morning when he wakes up and looks across at his wife. The pair of them probably woke up this morning thinking "how the fuck did i manage that".

    I have to agree.

I would have gone for Vidic imo.

I read it was some bloke called Howard Webb that counted the votes?

Congratulations to Ryan Giggs though, wasn't he 1 of the many great Man City kids?

Should be Player of the Decade, not Year, but I'm still glad he won it despite thinking like most, that Vidic was the man for the award.

Brings back memories when Ginola won it against all odds in UTD'd treble winning season.Maybe the players who voted for Giggs have too much money and very little brains and their momory is impaired.
