2nd hand GS 360 given up

Hey guys, my friend bought a 360 last year (september) and after going through about4/5 to get a working one he got there.

Anyway, a few months later it died with no power at all. He got it replaced.

Sadly after this ordeal the receipt was missing.

So my questions are:

What can he do?

The console is 2nd hand so it may well be registered to someone else (a ball ache to get around?)

Does Gamestation keep track of serial numbers of preowned 360's they've sold?

If it is faulty take it back. Gamestation give a 12 month warrenty on pre-owned consoles. Ideally you should have the receipt but if not then a proof of purchace. I.E. bank or credit card statement or even time, date and what was bought with it will allow them to trace it on the computer.

Is he a regular that the staff may remember?

Gamestation near me writes the serial number on the receipt.

You usually get a little form where they fill out what came with the machine, if it is marked and put on the serial number

Have you not checked online then?
Try and register it, you may be surprised. If it registeres ok just send it off to MS.

Btw you say no power at all, have you checked the power adaptor is it an orange light on there or red or none at all?

We rang up MS support and spoke to Bob from Manchester (really Raja from India)


Anyway, the console has been opened, 'tampered' with registered with someone else.

We managed to find out what date it was bought (there's a sent text on his phone saying 'Hey Chris, can you mod my xbox, i just bought it today!' )



The problem with his old xbox (last November?) was that it wouldn't power on and it was probably water damage.


This 'new' one is a 2006 model (78k drive) and has stopped giving an image yet outputs sound.




He's gonna ring our local branch and see what they say tomorrow.

It had no seal on it anyway!

The shite they allow people to trade in is unbelievable. This is the mate that had to go back about 3-4 times to get a 360 without something wrong with it. E74, RROD and bad disk drives were the culprits.

They have started selling refurb ones direct from Microsoft.

Consoles should be checked when they are traded in but if you are not sure then get them to test it before taking it.

I think that there are better checks being put into place.

It is worth taking it back as you have the date of purchase.
If there is a fuss mention that there was no sticker on it when bought and just ask for a replacement. Just be polite and it should be ok.

Gamestation said they wouldn't take it back unless he takes an extended warranty out at £25.
