Depends what you feel is letting you down with the 400D to be honest. What do you hope to gain with the 50D purchase? Worth remembering the 50D will show up every flaw in your glass and the two lenses you have are not brilliant. Personally I would buy a new lens and then think about a body when you really need one.

if i sell it i will let u know kev. but not sure at this time weather to get new lens or even a sony a350 plus lens. i also have a d50 nikon which between the cannon 400d and the nikon u just cant tellthe defferance. i have always used the 18-55 plus the 70-300 sigma lens and i dont have any problems overall. but i was thinking i would get poss more picture quality by upgrading.

getting another dslr like the sony wont make things any better, id decide on either the canon or the nikon and spend some cash on decent lenses. The 400D does have some downpoints (as with any entry level camera) which are fixed in a higher spec body but if you havent faced any of these issues then splashing out a load of cash wont improve things. Good glass is always good glass, cameras are out dated yearly so it makes sense to spend more on lenses and less on bodies

Buying a 50d won't make your photography any better and as pointed the 50d will highlight any flaws your current lenses have. So my advice would be to take the £819.00 you were going to spend on a 50d and put it into these lenses.

Nifty fifty from Ebay - £70 delivered approx
    Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 ex dg - £239 from WE

Then use the spare to get some filters, more memory and maybe a battery grip. Oh and you could get a Sigma flash gun and have fun with strobes....

    Hope that helps
