Help BIGSAT BS-S 801 in spain

hi hopefully someone on here can point me in the right direction

arrived in spain today and staying at the in laws for two weeks and
they have recently had one of these fitted (quite exspensive)

    http://receiver.dreamboxfile.com/big...s-s-801-xpeed/

i have had a little play about with scanning the channels but we still seem to be missing a lot of them

i notice this box has a card slot, on the epg there are a lot of the channels we would like to get but they have a $ sign next to them
i presume we have to pay someone to get these?

    thnxs in advance

$ means the channel is encrypted. You will need a valid subscription to unscramble.

What satelite are you pointing at?

What channels are you after? It's possible that the channels are provided by more than one provide and therefore would be decrypted by different cards.

Also, I can't get on the link you provided at work. So can't see your box specs. Dependent on what card slot it has will depend on what card can be input and therefore what channels it can unscramble.

    EDIT -

Is this the box? Seems to have a couple of cam slots. Still can't find any info that isn't blocked though.

hi mate you wont get BBC2, CH5, CH4 etc in spain as these are broadcast astra 2D satellite which is on a very narrow beam directed at the uk, also if you did manage to receive them with a dish the size of a football field you will still need some sort of valid subscription as CH5 is encrypted to stop it being viewed outside the uk.

you should be able to recieve sky sports channels ok as these are on wider beams.

you used to be able to pay the local 'MAFIA' (if you like to call it) a small sub fee each month for them to fit a mesh dish and supply sky channels by rebroadcsting them over spain, however it is rumoured that a lot of premium channels have dropping off this service so who knows what the future holds

    cheers for the reply
i think they had the old mesh system before until they stopped broadcasting on it
they used to get football live on saturday pms

so even if i purchased a freesat box or even aquired an old sky plus box i still wont get stuff like bbc2

the dish they have is 2.4m

    Whats your location in Spain?

If you are in the very south you will struggle!

Though looking at this 2.4m should make it possible!

My father in-law gets the Sky Channels. The full lot with a 3.5m dish. He is in Northern Spain though.

He just registers his box and card at his UK address. No "mafia" influence there. Look at the maps Beerman put up for what UK channels you can get. The best idea is to get a sky box for sky channels though.
