PSP given a psp - where do I start????

Been given a PSP, I think it's an old fat one (psp1003) from what I've seen on my searches - it's got firmware 5.03 installed and as far as I know it's never been modded or messed with. Also has a 2Gb original sony memory card.

Anyone give me a helping hand to get it modded?

What do I need and are there any easy to follow tutorials that don't need lots of pre-requisite knowledge of psp's? I've done a fair bit of searching and am honestly none the wiser, everything seems to require other equipment such as Datel batteries, pandoras batteries and numerous different firmwares to upgrade in stages - the more I read the more baffled I become

I managed to get my popcornhour box set up and customised and have messed with old psp 1 and 2, xbox1 and wii's but ths PSP has me going round in circles

hmmm my spanish isn't that good - and google translate/babelfish is only really useful if I knew which pages to translate. Don't have a lot of cash to spare so think I'm going to try a hardware mod to make the pandoras battery - that way I should be able to reverse it and keep using the same battery.

Edit - got my battery apart and found the eeprom chip is covered in nice black glue (same as some of the newer wii's etc...), my heatgun is out of gas so I'm not having a good day - gave up and ordered a pandoras battery off t'net instead - just have to hurry up and wait til it arrives on Tuesday hopefully

Got my Pandora battery and managed to get 5.00 M33-4 firmware installed, can now play avi films (using Ultimate PSPTube 1.8) and can also play .iso and .cso games ok so I'm assuming it's working.

What can I delete off the memory card I created (using Pandora Deluxe 3.1 installer) to give me a bit more room on there? Is it as simple as once the custom firmware is installed that it's ok to format the card and just put the games iso files and films on there in the relevant folders?

Yep pretty sure you can format the card after the firmware is installed.
I would take a copy of it first on to your PC Just in case

Cheers - got a backup and can easily recreate it again using the Pandora Deluxe program so safe enough there. Will give it a format tomorrow if my new 8Gb card still hasn't shipped from the lazy gits at mymemory

Congrats on working through that.. I dug mine out a couple of nights ago and decided to go to 5.03 and then back to m33-6 .. I bought a device to convert battery to a pandora that can also convert it back but didn't need it..
I used Chickhen v2 to run the exploit and got it there like that and ISO's are running fine.
This is a good method as it doesn't mean an outlay for the battery.
I do this every so often but the attraction of the PSP never lasts and it will be gathering dust again soon...

It used to be great for watching MP4s on the train but my iPhone now fulfils that need..

Can I ask why you installed PSPTube 1.8 and not the newer version 2.0?

Also did you have a sound distortion problem when playing .avis? And also some stuttering while playback?

Was wondering if you needed to resize the avi's resolution to make them work properly.

I installed 1.8 because it was the first version I came across - have upgraded to 2.0 now and it's still fine - I've not had any problems so far (only watched a couple of films right through on it though). I downloaded them psp ready converted from ng's
