    Info Water Damage

My missus dropped or placed my phone in some water she denies dropping it into the water

Anyway after switching it off leaving overnight I turned onto find some strange things happening after drying it some more and messing on it seems to have recovered apart from 1 thing.

The battery constantly shows really low, i plug it in to charge and it seems to be charging but once i unplug it the battery icon returns to just 1 faint red line

im pleased that it aint fooked all together and it seems like it is still charging but its annoying that i cant tell how much charge i have.

Have checked the battery in itunes and another application i have and they both state very low battery. The battery was fully charged when dropped in water and i keep charging whenever i get the chance as dont want it to run down and not be able to use it anymore

Anyone know whats best to do with it .i.e. new battery etc

    thanks in advance

Well for a completely new handset your looking at £146 direct from apple. If the battery is all that is goosed then a battery replacement will be around £70-£80.

Best bet would be to ring the Credit Card company if ya paid for it on one, buyer protection and all that

    Cheers

The can tell if the phone has had water damage so be very careful if you claim as your insurance may not cover this. The same thing happened to my partners iphone as in he had a liquid spilt on it. It also had problems charging and it kept freezing. We took it to an Apple shop and they were really good and showed us how you can tell if it has had liquid damage.
In the end we ended up buying a new one for £130 ish. As they did say it would get worse and it was not as reliable any more.

If you look into the headphone jack socket (inside at the bottom of the socket) under a light it will be either white (showing not water damaged) or red to show water has changed the white colour coding to red. Worth a check to see if it has changed it at all.....sure there is another location near the dock but only ever seen them checking the socket.

It has a thin red line across the white part of it, it seems to be all sorted other than the battery indicator

Might take it to nearest apple store to see what they say

    thanks for the replies guys

First thing they will check is down the headphone mate, red strip = water damaged so get out for them. The only thing i might suggest is say you got caught in a down pour and it was in your pocket and now its gone wrong. I think as its clear its water damaged being up front and saying you got soaked would at least get them on your side.........failing that insurance?

there may still be a bit of moisture in the phone, Put it in a tupperware box with some dry rice or silicone balls (sort of stuff u get with brand new trainers) leave it over night, i heard that can help remove any excess moisture

Karlos130 will get it dipped in the tank at work if you want to try and remove any excess moisture but you would be without phone for a couple of days and no guarantee that it will make it any better.

Choice is yours and as your local it might help

    ps is it 2g or 3g ??
