According to a report by Eurogamer's Spanish branch, Sony is hard at work on a true successor to the PlayStation Portable (the PSP Go! is just a refresh of the current PSP).
The publication claims to have obtained info on the graphics processor that will power this next-generation handheld. According to Eurogamer.es, Sony will use a quad-core implementation of Imagination Technologies' POWERVR SGX graphics IP core codenamed "Hydra." Such configuration would give the handheld a performance as high as the first Xbox in terms of graphics capabilities.
Imagination Technologies claims that at 200MHz core frequency, four POWERVR SGX graphics IP cores (SGX543MP4) will deliver 133 million polygons per second and fill rates in excess of 4Gpixels/sec.
Imagination Technologies also highlights the processor's ability to function as both a general purpose processor and as a graphics chip, which leaves the door open for Sony to use it a single processor that works as a CPU and a GPU.
