    Default sata tb hard drive not there?

    i just bought a new tb hard drive today, i got a sata one but now i am thinking i should have got an ide one,

    my set up now is 2 hard drives one sata one ide and all is ok, when i took out the ide one and replaced it with the new one it doesnt show up in my computer, i am thinking just take it back and get an ide one as that is how its all working now. or am i missing something?

    Dose it show up in bios?
    Is Sata 2 enabled ?
    Right click my computer > Manage > Disk Management > Format you new hard drive

    yes they are both enabled as i had my dvd was using one and the old hd using the other,

    the dvd was un pluged so that i could get the hd working but it never showed up.

    Normally when I've installed a new HDD (either IDE or SATA) it's been recognised fine by Bios, but not by Windows until it's been formatted (as windows can't see it until it's been formatted then you need to use something else to set it up) Most manufacturers provide setup tools through their website.

    Failing that any of the normal partion/formatting tools would do the job for you (Partition magic/Ranish/FDISK etc....)

    all done, connected it back up and it was there but needed formated, took 3 hrs!!!!!!!

    so all is good, not sure why it didnt show up but hey ho.

    3 hours for a TB drive thats slow matey. Might be a problem with it later on. so dont have any critical data you need on there untill your sure its not a DUD

    ah i hope not its brand new, but nothing vital will be on there just for downloads.....cheers for the heads up
