Help Connecting Network Plugs to Cat 5 question

I currently have a few cat 5e cables running to one room in the house, however I need to extend these to run them to the garage. I've run extra cat 5 cable from the garage to the room where the current cat 5 is.
I have purchased the couplers to link cat 5 together.
I need to connect the rj45 plugs to the cat5. There seem to be a few different ways of doing this from what I've seen.
In what order do I run the 8 wires in the rj45. I've seen straight through 568A, 568B, crossover, patch.
These cables are just going to link equipment (computers/xbox/media player etc) to the router or maybe a network switch depending on how many ports I need.

Can one of the network experts here advise please.

    Thanks

You just need a straight through cable for those devices to a router.

With the RJ45 connector clip down enter the wires in the following order on both ends.
WhiteOrange, Orange, WhiteGreen, Blue, WhiteBlue, Green, WhiteBrown, Brown.

Thanks for that, will try it when I get home.

By connector clip down you mean the side with the gold bits on the bottom.

Also out of curiousity what is the difference with the straight through 568A and B?

They are CAT5E CAT6 wiring standards 568B is the newer of the 2 and the one above either can be used but has to be consistent throughout the network due to the different pin outs, very rarely come across 568A.

Sorry by clip down I meant the bit that stops the cables comin out the socket, so you want the gold pins up facing you.
