Bricked Wii

Right my fiend has just given me his wii to look at as it's bricked so he says

He's sotf modded it and uses free loader to play his backup's and his console is a USA one

If you turn the wii on you just get a black screen

I have taken apart an old gamecube controller and plugged it into port 4 and if i hold down all the buttons on the d-pad i get a black screen and then 3.3(USA) in the bottom corner

Do i just need to get a game with a higher firmware for his region and patch it to autoboot?

Will this then instal the newer firmware and fix his wii

I'm guessing as it's not chipped i'll have to pput a drive in that is to get it to play a copy of a game to instal the firmware

Or am i on the wrong path and is there something else i should do for him?

So why does he assume he has bricked it?
What did he do to bring about this 'black screen'?
Has he applied an update from a game or summat?

I applied a game update which did the same to mine - black screen.
I got an old GC controller, held down all dirs on the D pad, and pressed the shoulder buttons. This booted it to my DS card (which was in the slot) I then downgraded to 3.2 and all was well.

He's saying he don't know what happened can't even remeber the last game he tried in it or the kids might have done it

Update on this

I downloaded donkey kong jungle beat USA version

Set it to auto boot and started the wii with all the buttons held down

left it for a bit and it was showing the 3.3 (USA) in the bottom right hand corner

nothing seemed to be happening

Just tried it again and when i hold down the buttons on the controller it now shows 3.4 (USA)

so looks like it updated as i was hoping it would but still just have a black screen

having a bit if a read up and looks like it could be the wifi board or bluetooth module that's fucked

so will have to take one out of my wii and try to see if it sorts it out

if you have bootmii2 on it i think if u have hbc on the sd card u can run it and then downgrade then upgrade this happened to me last nite but mine said system files corrupted.ya can always try what i said

i had 1 like this i put a drivekey in it booted it up holding the 4 buttons down and used the wiirepair disc 1.3 to restore it and it booted back up as factory default

Don't suppose anyone has got a link for this disc can't seem to find it anywhere

It's also known as the 'pink fish disc 1.31' or backup disc 1.31.

That might assist your search. If you do struggle I have it at home (at work now), so will upload (it's only a smallish file iirc) it for you if you can't find it.

Right i've managed to find the disc and have burnt 2 copies of it

One as i downloaded it and the other one set to autoboot

I put the disc in and turn the wii off

Hold down the 4 buttons on the gamecube controller and turn the machine on
I then get 3.4(USA) in the bottom corner this ten goes after about 15 -20 seconds

And nothing happens just a black screen

Is there something else i need to be doing
Do i need something on the sd card?

is your GCC in port 4?
I don't have personal experience of recovering a banner brick but I've been told that you have to repeatedly press all four directions of the GCC at power up. insert your 'backup disc' at the black screen (Your 'backup disk' shouldn't to be set to autoboot) and a few seconds later it should boot into the repair disc menu.

Right i have finally got to the bottom of this

it wasn't bricked it was the bluetooth module that was fucked

fitted a new one and it's all up and running again
