Renault Scenic I.R. keyfob Reprogramme

hi, recently my renault scenic (1998R) infrared keyfob died, and im using the 4 digit bypass code to start it up everytime, ive bought a secondhand one from ebay because i was told i could get it reprogrammed, does anyone know how to do this or know anywhere i can send it away to have it done? i have the immobiliser code, and have also tried to reprogramme it using the online guide (input the code, turn off ignition and press button at sensor) without sucess. any help/info would be greatfully appreciated as i dont want to have to pay rip off renault prices, im not tight but they are way overpriced!

hi m8,

we had same problem with ours and did same thing .
secondhand one from ebay and tried for weeks to redo then when we asked renault to do was told that keypads cant be reprogrammed , ended up buying new keyfob.

hiya thanks for the reply, renault told me that too but they should be reprogrammable as our next door neighbour reprogrammed an identical keyfob for his clio but we cant get it to do it for our scenic! have tried about 20 times lol he is going to try ours on his clio later to see if its a faulty keyfob or not!

ps. just out of interest if its not too cheeky to ask, how much did renault charge u for a new keyfob?

cheers . thats not as bad as what my local renault place quoted me! have gotta take it in for a autobox oil n filter change, might see if i can get it for that price-

right!
i phoned renault, they basically told me the same as they told ethanhawk above... that you cant reprogramme the fobs and it will cost �95 plus vat etc etc so i took both my fobs (the knackered original, and the one off ebay) i then turned on my webcam, aimed the fobs at it and neither was showing an ir signal, so i resoldered the joints and tried again - blue flashing ir signals on both! but they still didnt work on the car, so i took my original one, put the emergency immob 4 digit code in using the cars central locking button. then removed the key from the ignition, held the cars central locking button in until it clicked twice, then held the fob up to the sensor and clicked the fob button a few times! success it came back to life!!! i tried the same and guess what? that reprogrammed too! so my problem is now fixed, and without paying renault a penny! from this experience now i wont beleive anything my renault dealer tells me!
