    Poll Wonder Boy Owen

England manager Fabio Capello has admitted that Manchester United striker Michael Owen is proving to be his tormentor.
Capello has consistently overlooked the former Liverpool man when naming his squads and has compared the situation with Antonio Cassano's omission from the curretnt Italy set-up.

    FABIO CAPELLO
Capello, speaking at an Italian sports seminar, said: "I have Michael Owen, I also have a tormentor.

"With Lippi, it's Cassano. Everyone has one."
Owen has found the net 40 times in 89 appearances for his country but has not been picked by Capello since the 1-0 friendly loss to France in March 2008 when he was still a Newcastle United player.
The 29-year-old has scored Three time's ,in 12 appearances for Sir Alex Ferguson's side so far this season following his surprise move to Old Trafford in the summer.

Has this boy really got what it takes for the world cup !
I really think we need this boy to help us win the world cup !

He's not done enough yet. I'm a big fan of people playing regularly and earning their places, not just on reputation. If Owen scores a few more goals in the Premier League then there's an argument for taking him ahead of the likes of Carlton Cole, Emile Heskey, but for me, Owen hasn't done enough at United to earn his place in a 22. In a squad of 30 yes, but I wouldn't take him, not yet. Heskey may be a donkey in front of goal but you can't ignore what England have done with him and Rooney playing together.

Agreed....At the present time he doesn't deserve his place at all not even close.

Because that was in his heyday...Were you so pro taking Owen during his Newcastle days?

For me he's proved nothing since moving from Newcastle to United.I look at it in a similar way to the Fowler moving back to us scenario a few years ago although to a lesser extent it's as if people think he's going to roll back the years and become a lethal force again like he was in his early 20's.Owen isn't the same player who scored all those goals for England a few years ago and although he may improve what with playing with a better standard of player he'll never be the old Michael Owen.
If he proves he can still hack it by the end of the season and is up there with the top scorers then so be it take him,but at the moment what has he done since joining United that warrants a place in the England world cup squad.

who else would you take though?

    Heskey-isnt playing regular either
    Cole - id take
    Rooney - easy
    agbonlerhor(how ever u spell it)
    Defoe-id take
crouch- not playing at the moment
    wallcot -injury prone

to me, if it come down to the last 20 minutes of a game and you needed a goal. which 1 of them would u like to bring on.

owen has been there and done it before.
He will only be a bench player in the world cup anyway

Agree with this, but at the minute "NO".

Did you also see his 1 on 1 scuffed miss last night, strange no-one mentioned that 1 (even Heskey would have scored it).

its a tough one because we know he will score goals and has the experience to cope with the pressure. but there are better strikers than him at the moment like Bent, Cole and even Agbonlahor but will these players be able to deal with the pressures of a world cup?

Heskey would have set Rooney up to meg 3 players chip it over the 4th and volley it into the top corner, but who cares.

The four i'd take would at the present time be...

    Defoe,Rooney,Bent and Crouch

Owen wouldn't even be next on my list of backups he'd be behind Cole and Heskey for a start.....as BBK said before you can't take him based on his reputation at the expense of someone with more form.

It's all very Romantic thinking the "old" Owen would turn up at the world cup but it's a gamble not worth taking.
I don't think you can afford to take players to the world cup with the intention of them coming on for 15 minutes at the end of a match.

To answer the question about who would i bring on for the last 20 minutes if we needed a goal then if he wasn't already on it'd be Crouch (that of course all depends on the reason we're struggling to score)..
