    Info Switch :)

    Hi there,

As you know the T.V Digital Switchover is almost upon is in the Granada (North West) Region. And I know some of you will be confused about it, this blog by Me Daniel Francis of Aerial Liverpool is to make life a little easier for you without using jargon like most digital sites.

The analogue services such as BBC 1 & 2, ITV, Chanel 4 and Channel 5 will cease to be broadcast in the old analogue method and will switch for a fully integrated digital signal. All this means is if you have an old T.V (not DVB) you will cease to receive channels 1-5 and you will have to go for one of four options.

    Options

    1. Subscribe to SK* or SK* Free view this will ensure you still receive all your current channels and more.

    2. Subscribe to a Virmin Media package (Cable T.V) as long as it is available in your area.

    3. Freesat this is one of the easier methods, If you have a working sk* satellite dish on your property you can purchase a set top box or T.V with a built in Freesat receiver.

    4. Freeview. This is by far the most common option as almost everyone has a T.V Aerial which is doing its job now and will more than likely do the job after the switchover. All you need to do is purchase a set top box “freeview box or Freeview recorder or T.V with built in Freeview”. Plug in your existing aerial and scan for your channels.

With option 4. Sometimes when you search for channels in rare cases you get a box on the screen that says “No Signal” or you get a signal but it seems blocky and the sound is intermittent. What I suggest you do is don’t go running out and phoning any Tom, Dick or Harry aerial company to come and have a look. Do a few checks yourself first.

Check the connection at the back of the T.V make sure the RF connector that plugs into the T.V is fitted nice and snug.

Check that there is no cable taped together at the back of the T.V where someone has home made an extension.

Go outside and look at you cable coming from the roof. Make sure it is not damaged in any way or there are any bits of tape wrapped around the cable or see if the cable has been split to other rooms in your home, if it is this can also cause signal loss.

And finally look at your aerial if it is broken, snapped, or pointing in another direction from all the other aerials on other houses.

Now is the time to call in the engineers such as us at Aerials Liverpool. We can come out and give you a free quote on a new T.V Aerial and get you up and running with no fuss.

Last things last, if you are reading this and you have concerns about an elderly relative, friend or neighbour who may not understand the switch, go round and do the honours and check they are ready.

Cheers For Reading. And please feel free to copy and paste this advice wherever you see fit.

    Danny
