Just about to 'dip' my toes into OBDII, mainly to be able to re-set service intervals and read erro codes on my A4.

Been looking at various suppliers for the kit, apart from Ross tech have you seen this guy,

Seems pretty straight forward don't you think

    Or there this link,

    http://www.skpang.co.uk/obdii_hardware.htm

not yet ordered yet, as the service interval light does not need re-seting and the cars running ok. If you have success in making an interface drop me a line as to how easy and more importantly how much.

right, built the thing and am having problems. followed the diy install from http://digital-forums.com/forum/show...threadid=63093

Built for about £4 + connector (thanks philo )

Trying to connect to a renault megane 98 with connector in fusebox.

Not sure on software and settings, tried vag-com which finds interface but not car, and obd2 from www.obd-2.com which dont do owt :/

I could get the 2501 opto isolators so got a replacement fromn the local electronics shop and it must be working as vag-com wouldnt see some connection.

Do renault use the same connector but different protocol ??

    Confused but still perservering

Have a look at the connector to see what pins they are using. If they are using pins 2 & 10 then its j1850 bus. Pins 6 and 14 are can hi and lo.

    bit confused ??
Cant really see what pins are used so will wait till weekend to remove connector and check the back to what pins should be.
    Assumed standard K&L for 7, 15.
If j1850, then how do i connect ? just swap pins to 2 & 10 ?? or is a diff interface needed and if so what software connects to j1850??

If a diff interface then ne1 got some details schematic etc ??

    **EDIT**

Just read some of the earlier posts in the link i mentioned i see what j1850 is now - diff protocol either pwm or vpw !

I have the home built interface which only does iso 9141

Ne1 have details for the diy interfaces of the other types ??
