Rumour what do you think this gti is worth? is it worth buying ?

anyone know anythink about vw golf gti cars ?
i was thinking about buying it to repair & sell on just wanted some advice

seen a vw golf gti 1985 guys looking for around 900.00 for it however it needs a bit of work.

no tax or mot, car Mileage: 193,000

guy said its good condition inside out, has big bumpers etc

    work it needs is

    tiny rust on roof
    tiny rust on ariel
    tiny dent passenger door tiny
    indicator light needs fixing
    news 2 front tyers
needs a new pin on suspention
small bit on rear inner arch need welding

anyone think its worth it to repair to sell on?

how much do you think its worth in current state ? and value if it had mot and repairs done.

dont know alot about vw gti,s cars so not sure how much they are worth etc.

just thought it might be a good opertunity to buy & to fix and maybe resell on for bit more.

looks nice car and has the big bumpers and smoothed boot etc but just unsure value of these cars so not sure if it would be a good or bad buy ?

    got till tommorow to decide

Agreed, stay away. There must be a very good reason why the seller hasn't got it MOT'd before trying to sell it. When I worked at British car Auctions I'd value cars without an MOT at £1, some people would get well upset lol but some would go with it, they didn't make much more than £1 if they even got a bid at all. Walk away, forget it. The only reason for selling without an MOT is because there is something to be hidden, something bad, something expensive.

    thanks guys.

i must have bad taist as i thought it looked quite nice in pictures and there might have been a opertunity to fix and sell it on for more however it would of prob cost 1100 to buy and to repair and tax & test it.

but like you guys say theres a reason why its not been motted ? and he said hes not going to go any lower than 850.00 for it.

i did think its strange when i spoke to guy as he said it had been in for mot and need above repairs.

think i will leave it then.

    Hello mate.

My styling opinions aside there are a couple of bits of bodywork that need doing, this is hard to get right. Mechanical stuff is a piece of cake on these mark 2's I had one for my first car & did loads of work on it over the years - not a gti by the way. If the aerial is in the standard place on the nearside wing they are a twat to replace trust me I had to do it a few times. Welding & "pin" on the suspension - vague description from him.

Just look out for a different one

p.s. mk1 with pirelli alloys would be my choice
No sympathy for the devil; keep that in mind. Buy the ticket, take the ride...

If you were to go for it, please take all the caravan-dweller style stuff off it and revert it back to how it should be. It is screaming to be pulled over.

It's got the potential, but it is a classic. Think of it as a not for profit project.

if your gonna get one, get an untouched one. Less chances of getting a lemon.

I wouldn't want to pay more than £200 for the car, and that would only be if I loved the styling and was already intent on doing something similar.
