A new partnership could provide households and small businesses in South Yorkshire with super fast broadband in 2010!

The plan brings together the public/private partnership (PPP) Digital Region and the tech provider Thales, in a project named “Go-Live”.

This project aims to provide a broadband service that offers connection speeds of 25 Mbps and over to ninety seven per cent of households and small businesses, which could be as many as 1.2 million homes and forty thousand businesses.

The system will use VDSL2 over a fibre to the cabinet (FTTC) service and Thales will be laying its own fibre cables instead of using the existing BT copper wires.

This project is one that will reach out to a wider group of people, many of whom have never had a broadband connection.
