The Rom240 is basically the US version of the European Rom140 range (very close to the Rom142 used in Ireland). Its totally different to the Rom180 now being rolled out in the UK. Its thought the Rom180 actually uses a totally different chip manufacturer for the processor core.

Only that if the masters of the Nagra hack, the Spanish, haven't managed to do it in 2 odd years I think the UK is about to lose free-tv !

This card is NOT going to be opened by amateur hobbyists no matter how good they are. Its going to have to be de-capsulated and understood silicon layer by silicon layer. Assuming anyone has got the money and capabilities to do this its still going to take quite some time.

For now, your best hope is probably cardsharing but even that is technically difficult as you require to find the RSA pairing keyset within the stb. Finding a 96 byte number in a 32 Megabyte dump is a little harder than the proverbial needle in the haystack !

certainly looks bleak and yes the spanish look to be stuck...i really hope everyone doesn't concentrate on the cs route as thats just handing it to the traders again imo...

Which to a point is what I mean. The desire to hack isn't as powerful now. The costs/engergy/time to do it doesn't balance the benefit. It's not something that can be hacked for fun. Plus with CS being very big, what would ppl gain in reality?

There maybe money in it for pirates to sell systems and the like, but hackers and pirates/traders don't usually get on well!

It's funny because a few local Arfur Daley's round my way are aware of whats happening and they all know "some whizz kid" who will crack it in ten minutes... lol

i heard some of the older boxes dont support the new card properly so they might switch boxes for certain people who still have the really old box.

yeah, but if your a paying customer from leeds then you should already have the new card from what I've read.. certain channels getting chopped already so surely that means customers should already have their cards..

    @ DJ Overdose

Thanks for the video; that's exactly what I was referring to earlier.

Let's see if crack_it's mate can prove if he can do the same in the garden shed in his back yard....somehow I doubt it.

With blanks screens sometime in the new year for cable there is going to be a lot of talk about c/s,

What is the forum policy on such talk? Personally anything to do with sky c/s should be done privately.

I've got to ask - has this story been confirmed yet as I've not been able to find anything other than speculation & a google search resulted in a techwatch page with the same text as in post #1 and not much more.

I see alot of new subscribers going to sky. IF/WHEN i decide to migrate ill go the whole hog and goto ADSL. I dont use the tinternet as much for DLing and really i`d still be happy with 10meg download speeds.
