I have a surfboard SB4100, i done the steps but it doesnt want the "docsis.md5" file, it wants a "mota4100-silver.cm" file. I renamed it and it more or less gave the same outcome as your pic.
The lights flash for about 3 min where DHCP on the cable modem just seem to fail and gives me an ip of 0.0.0.0, i cant connect to the net or even the cable modem.
Has anyones CM asked for a "mota4100-silver.cm" file, and how did you get round it?

Theres definately been a speed increase, getting about 95k now thru websites....no time to try kazza etc right now
i did the speed test and it said 61kb, perfect - am i doing anything wrong?

Just a few questions mate - I have the 1mbit - will this increase my speed x4 or does it only work for the 512k??
The second question is i use a router (and i access the router cp with the ip 192.168.1.1) will this make a difference or should i unplug the router while upping the speed??
Last question is - is the hack limited in any way (time limitation) as i saw another threead where a file was posted but only lasted till the 25th.

The 1mbit will be twice as fast as the 512k service, and the upload speed will be better also. It will not be 4x faster.
As for Unlocking the BY cable modem, it can be done, first of all you need linux on a dual boot with your machine and you need access & change a file on the server for the modem.
A friend of mine has done this & plenty more have. The speeds that he got were astonishing, something like 2mb d/l and 600k/s upload.
Unfortunately, BY caught him as it is so easy to keep an eye on traffic. So he got booted off. I suppose its quite safe if you dont use it to extremes, but if you do, be careful as its very easy to get caught.
Strangely enough 1mbit is twice as fast as 512kbit, not really sure what this has to do with anything tho, this method using the config file that i supplied will only change your service speeds to 2mbit/512kbit, it doesn't matter what they were before.

I cant really see the logic in this, this thread is a tutorial on how to uncap the modem without using linux on a dual boot. when using this method you are not really changing a file on the server for the modem, its more like you are pretending to be BY/NTL and giving the modem a modified config file.

If your friend uses a different method to this and actually uploads a config to the BY DHCP server i would be very interested to talk to him, Just Imagine uploading the config to there servers so everyone will gets the 2mbit service!!

I would unplug the router, uncap then plug it back in. the only problem you may have is the modem learns the mac address. if you have mac spoofing that shouldn't be a problem. I think most routers do, As far as i am aware there is no time limitation on this config file, even of there was I would think that as long as you don't uncap the modem it should keep working, as it will only use the config when it boots up. anybody else have any idea?

I was told by a friend of the NTL network admin that they cannot tell how much you are downloading , they only have logs of the amount of traffic that you upload.. So i suppose if you uncapped an NTL cable modem & didnt upload ( or limit yourself to upping at 13K ) then you wouldnt get caught??

I have the 3Com Tailfin modem (unfortunatly !), however, am gonna try and do this capping tonight, out of all the stuff i have read (even legit stuff), u never see much mention of the 3com Tailfin modem, good luck to me, time to reclaim those lost weeks of browsing with twice the speed !! :-)

Whats this info you got then, nothing we should be worried about is it?
To be honest i would think they would monitor the download rather than the upload if not both, most ppl want to uncap to get faster download, but i am probably wrong.

They are not banning you for a week as it has been said - there have been people caught and banned for life...so forget that - my cable access is too good for me to loose.
You could say well sod it if i get caught i will go on adsl - but after being on adsl for 14 months (and what a crap service it is) - i think i prefer to stay with cable.
Like they say nothing in life is free, only trouble is in the uk it's 2-3 times more expensive than the rest of the world.
Fair shout i suppose, its really up to you what you want to believe, there is a letter on this thread from blueyonder to someone who got caught, i have not heard anything solid from ntl yet.

im on ntl with the terayon tj210 cable modem, only on 128 connexion, so if i can uncap this it would be great
does this work with this terayon, im havin a few problems

Do these settings sound correct, & how do I configure this in tftpd32, I have tried everything I can think of but still I dont get a connection.

NTL suspend you and depending on what ur doing with it for example if its heavy use etc they will ban u for life.
